Yali Topol Margalith, who plays Alice and Steve, has explained her character’s actions, addressing concerns that she didn’t seem to respect her mother’s beliefs.
A new show on Disney+ follows Alice and Steve, who are best friends, as their relationship is complicated when Steve begins a romance with Alice’s daughter, Izzy, who is in her twenties.
Steve is taking the heat from Alice because of this confusing situation, but Izzy isn’t innocent either. She admitted their relationship started just one day after it began.
After that, she just dug in her heels even more, refusing to let go of us, even though it caused Alice and our family so much pain and problems. I watched her become increasingly determined to keep things going, no matter the cost.
Addressing concerns that this might make Izzy seem unsympathetic, Margalith told TopMob why her character would disagree with her mother on this specific matter.
I understand why you feel Izzy doesn’t consider her mother’s feelings, but I think it’s more that she doesn’t quite grasp them. Her mum has always been there for her, no matter what, and Izzy genuinely believes things will work out alright.
Actress Margalith, known for her roles in ‘A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder’ and ‘Finding Emily,’ shared that her experience playing villainous characters helped her with the role of Izzy. However, she clarified that she doesn’t consider her parts as Alice and Steve to be similar types of roles.

I think what she said really hits home – when I’m working on a villain, I find I can’t bring myself to judge their actions. I always try to understand why they did what they did, and find a reason, even if it’s just to myself. It’s like, you start to see things from their perspective, and it feels completely believable that, given their circumstances, that’s exactly what they would do. You almost feel like they had no other choice, and that they were just doing the best they could.
Joining Alice and Steve in the cast are Joel Fry, known for his role in ‘Paddington in Peru,’ Tyrese Eaton-Dyce from ‘Sherwood,’ Marcia Warren who appeared in ‘The Crown,’ and Eilidh Fisher of ‘Dope Girls’.
Alice and Steve is available to stream on Disney+. Sign-up to Disney+ from £5.99 a month.
I’m so excited about the TopMob app and think you should definitely check it out! They’ve added Alice and Steve, and I’ve already downloaded it to get daily TV recommendations and all sorts of cool features. You won’t want to miss out!
