
Dylan Dreyer is forecasting a family reunion in her future.
During an interview with influencer Alix Earle on Today on May 12th, the show’s anchor shared that they are related.
As Dylan explained to cohosts Al Roker and Craig Melvin, “We’re second cousins.”
Alix’s dad, Thomas “TJ” Earle, comes from a huge family, Dylan explained. “It felt like growing up with tons of siblings,” he said, since TJ has many cousins. “Their Christmas card each year is packed with photos of about a hundred people!”
Alix, who comes from a large family with four siblings—including her sister, influencer Ashtin Earle—confirmed this, stating, “My family’s huge.”
Alix revealed that she and her cousin are related, and shared that she once considered becoming a broadcast journalist. She explained that watching her cousin on television frequently as a child inspired this career interest.
I tried broadcasting in college – it was more like an after-school club, really – but I wasn’t very good, so I gave it up,” the Dancing With the Stars contestant said with a laugh. “I’ve always looked up to you, though.
Alix had admired Dylan for a long time, and their paths finally crossed when Alix’s work as an influencer brought them to the same event. As Dylan recalled, they didn’t actually meet until a couple of years prior at the Kentucky Derby.
Today’s live family reunion on television was a significant event. “It’s amazing to be here with you doing this,” Alix shared, calling it “a truly special day.”
This isn’t the first time someone on Today has found out they’re related to a famous person. Dylan explained that her connection to Alix was reminiscent of Al Roker’s relationship with Lenny Kravitz.
Following a revelation Al shared in a 2011 interview with Us Weekly, Savannah Guthrie directly asked him on Today to verify if he was actually related to Lenny Kravitz as cousins.

“Well, I am, but I wasn’t supposed to say it,” Al joked. “Now I gave up the monthly stipend.”
Al and Lenny shared on the Today show that they think their grandfathers were cousins.
Lenny shared that he and Al Roker are related. His mother was named Roxie Roker, and his grandfather, Albert Roker, was from the Bahamas, making the connection likely.
