As a huge film fan, I’m amazed at how much staying power this franchise has! It’s been almost 15 years since the last movie came out, and people are still obsessed – maybe even more so now. It’s incredible to see how TikTok has sparked a whole new wave of interest in both the films and the original books, bringing them back into the spotlight.
I’m not surprised to see Twilight trending again! All five movies are currently in the top 10 on HBO Max, which is pretty amazing. The series really pulled me in when I first watched it – it’s about Bella Swan, a teenager who moves to a rainy little town called Forks and gets caught up in a whirlwind romance with a vampire. It’s not just about vampires though! The story expands to include werewolves – the Quillayute tribe – and a whole powerful vampire council called the Volturi. It’s cool to remember that Jamie Campbell Bower, who played Vecna in Stranger Things, was actually a part of that world too!
There’s An Endearing Sort of Legacy to the Films
Revisiting Twilight as an adult is a different experience than when the books and movies first came out. But one Letterboxd user nailed it: the movie is surprisingly enjoyable if you imagine Edward as just a strange, awkward high schooler. They pointed out the shaky camera work, the bizarre Radiohead song choice at the end, and declared it a perfect 10/10, saying it’s genuinely fun to watch. And honestly, they have a point!
The reviews for the other movies are just as genuine, legitimate, and wild. One viewer described New Moon, saying, “Bella being really sad and staring out the window for months after her incredibly handsome vampire boyfriend left feels relatable.” Another gave Eclipse a perfect 5-star rating, claiming it was “more masterful and impactful than anything Quentin Tarantino has ever made.”
