As a horror fan, I’m really bummed to hear that one of my favorite shows – a super addictive vampire series that ran for five seasons – is leaving Netflix soon! Netflix has actually had a great April, adding stuff like Beast and the original series Big Mistakes. And they’re planning to add even more scary content with movies like Scream and Halloween Ends. But if I want to finish (or rewatch!) that vampire show, I need to hurry – time is running out!
If you’re a fan of the series Van Helsing, you’ll want to finish watching it on Netflix soon! The show, starring Kelly Overton as Vanessa Van Helsing, will be leaving the streaming service on April 16th. Originally running for six seasons and 65 episodes on Syfy from 2016 to 2021, Van Helsing offered a fresh take on the classic vampire hunter from Bram Stoker’s Dracula and gained a dedicated following.
Syfy’s Van Helsing Is a Binge-Worthy Twist on the Classic Dracula Lore
Bram Stoker’s Dracula has been adapted countless times, but the Syfy series offered a fresh take on the classic story. While the character of Van Helsing, Dracula’s main opponent—a Dutch doctor and professor—had been featured before, this show put a unique spin on the tale by reimagining the hero as a woman. The series centers on Vanessa, a descendant of Van Helsing, who wakes from a coma to find a world plagued by vampires. Like the original Van Helsing, she leads the fight against them, but with a key difference: her blood doesn’t just harm vampires—it can cure them, turning them back into humans. This makes Vanessa both incredibly valuable and a constant target.
Though not a critically acclaimed horror masterpiece, Van Helsing became a surprisingly enjoyable guilty pleasure. It developed a loyal fanbase despite receiving mixed reviews, largely because of its over-the-top, intentionally cheesy style. The show leaned into absurdity with increasingly wild storylines, all set against a backdrop of a monster-filled post-apocalypse. It’s a relentlessly fun, action-packed, and gory series that offers a uniquely chaotic take on the vampire apocalypse, making it perfect for a binge-watching session.
Where to Stream Van Helsing After It Leaves Netflix?
As a big fan of Van Helsing, I was bummed to hear it’s leaving Netflix. But thankfully, it won’t be gone forever! After April 16th, you won’t find it on the major streaming services like Netflix, but you can still watch all the episodes for free on Tubi, The Roku Channel, and Pluto TV. Plus, you can always rent or buy it online. And honestly, I’m hoping it might even end up back on a big streaming platform someday!
