The recent challenges faced by the Marvel Cinematic Universe indicate that the appeal of superhero stories may not be as widespread or enduring as it once was. While it’s unlikely we’ll ever see a time without a Spider-Man movie or series pulling in big audiences, even the much-criticized Spider-Man 3 managed to be the highest grossing film of 2007. Characters like Spider-Man (and Batman) are deeply rooted in popular culture, ensuring their continued presence in Hollywood productions. The Spider-Man franchise has diversified beyond just Peter Parker, encompassing various Spider-themed characters across different mediums and formats.
Up next is a collection of Spider-Man and Spider-related series/movies, with the exception of one which seems quite likely to materialize. This means that enthusiasts of the Spider-Man universe have plenty of entertainment on its way, which is certainly something to be grateful for. For gaming fans, there’s also the upcoming Spider-Man 3, although a specific or even general release date has yet to be announced.
1) Spider-Man: Brand New Day – July 31, 2026
Despite The Fantastic Four: First Steps falling short of its financial targets so far, Spider-Man: Brand New Day appears to be a reliable choice. The ending of Spider-Man: No Way Home left Peter Parker in a difficult situation, as Doctor Strange cast a spell allowing everyone, including MJ, to forget him and his time as Spider-Man. Fan anticipation is high for seeing where this story unfolds next.
Due to leaked set photos, we’re slowly getting a glimpse into what “Brand New Day” might entail. For example, pictures have surfaced of Spider-Man perched atop a tank amidst a bustling city street, hinting at connections to “No Way Home”. Additionally, the images suggest a visit to Aunt May’s grave.
In terms of changes, Destin Daniel Cretton is now directing instead of Jon Watts, marking a fresh start for the series. However, some familiar faces will return, including Zendaya as MJ, Jacob Batalon as Ned Leeds, and Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle. This means that “Brand New Day” marks the first appearance of the Punisher in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s big screen.
Furthermore, Mark Ruffalo will reprise his role as the Hulk, and Michael Mando from “Spider-Man: Homecoming” is set to make a comeback as Scorpion. “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” is scheduled to hit theaters on July 31, 2026.
2) Spider-Noir – 2026
Nicolas Cage has had a varied journey with films based on superheroes. Initially, he came close to landing the role of Superman, but it didn’t work out in the end. Later, he took on the character of Ghost Rider twice, with his acting fitting the part particularly well in the second film, although neither movie received much acclaim. However, Cage shined brightest in his portrayal of Spider-Man Noir in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, a role that stands out as his best superhero performance.
8 years following the 2018 film, we will witness a live-action adaptation of the former animated character, with Mr. Cage reprising his role. The series, titled “Spider-Noir”, is scheduled to premiere on MGM+ in 2016 and falls under Sony’s Spider-Man Universe. Similar to the “Spider-Verse” films, it will be produced by Phil Lord, Chris Miller, Amy Pascal, and others, and will consist of a total of eight episodes. The show can be viewed in two ways: a black-and-white version and a color version. Joining Mr. Cage are Lamorne Morris as the ambitious journalist Robbie Robertson from “New Girl”, Brendan Gleeson portraying a New York mob boss in films like “28 Days Later” and “Paddington 2”, Jack Huston, known for his role in “Boardwalk Empire”, playing a bodyguard (presumably for Gleeson’s character), Li Jun Li from “Sinners” as a nightclub singer, and Lukas Haas, who starred in “Inception”, taking on the role of a mobster under Gleeson’s boss.
3) Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Season 2 – 2026
The first season of “Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man” received impressive reviews, despite not meeting Disney’s desired viewership. Remarkably, a second installment has been confirmed, and even more excitingly, a third season is being developed too!
As a die-hard fan, I can’t contain my excitement! The second season of that amazing animated series is rumored to drop sometime in 2026, marking its entry into Marvel Cinematic Universe Phase Six. Just like the first one, it’s expected to span over ten thrilling episodes.
Remember when the first season hit screens back in February this year? Well, our showrunner Jeff Trammell hinted that Gwen Stacy, aka Spider-Gwen, would join the action. However, there’s still some mystery about whether she’ll be the same Spider-Gwen/Spider-Woman we’ve grown to love in the Spider-Verse trilogy, portrayed by the talented Hailee Steinfeld. Can’t wait for more updates on this one!
4) Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse – June 25, 2027
It’s hardly surprising that we’re now expecting a third Spider-Man movie, following the success and popularity of “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” and “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.” The upcoming film is called “Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse,” but its release has been slightly delayed compared to what might have been anticipated. This delay seems significant because the plan was for it to premiere in March 2024, just a year after “Across” left us hanging on a cliffhanger. However, when you consider that there were five years between the first and second films, the four-year wait between the second and third doesn’t seem quite so long.
The reason for the movie’s delay was due to several issues arising simultaneously. The SAG-AFTRA strike in 2023 caused some complications, but primarily, the script wasn’t ready to meet the initial release date. Initially slated for June 2027 in 2024 by Sony, it was rumored to be “Beyond,” but that didn’t materialize. After another rescheduling, the official announcement came in July 2025, confirming the movie will premiere on June 25, 2027. With actors like Hailee Steinfeld already recording for the film, it appears to be progressing towards its scheduled release date. Waiting four years for a resolution to a cliffhanger might seem long, but ensuring everyone involved can deliver a truly satisfying ending seems worthwhile.
5) Spider-Punk – TBC
Just recently, it was disclosed that the universe of “Spider-Verse” is set to expand. More precisely, this expansion will include a new movie titled “Spider-Punk,” where Daniel Kaluuya from “Black Panther” and “Get Out” reprises his role as Spider-Man, following his debut in “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.
Daniel Kaluuya isn’t just acting in an upcoming project, but he’s also contributing significantly by developing and co-writing it alongside Ajon Singh. The project they are working on, titled “Spider-Punk”, shares producers with the “Spider-Verse” films, namely Phil Lord, Chris Miller, and Amy Pascal. Despite his involvement in “Spider-Punk”, Kaluuya’s character, a punk-rock Spider-Man named Hobie Brown, is expected to appear in “Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse”. However, it remains unclear whether “Spider-Punk” will connect with “Beyond the Spider-Verse” or not, as no details about the plot of the former have been revealed yet, and a release date is still undecided.
6) Spidey and His Amazing Friends Season 5 – TBC
As a movie reviewer, I’m thrilled to share my thoughts on the ongoing adventures of “Spidey and His Amazing Friends,” Marvel’s first full-length series tailored for younger viewers. This captivating series made its debut on June 16 and has already sprinted into its fourth season! With a minimum of 25 episodes per season, we’ve only seen seven so far this year, leaving plenty more thrills to come! To add to the excitement, rumors are swirling that “Spidey and His Amazing Friends” has been greenlit for a fifth season. Can’t wait to see what spider-filled surprises await us!
For children-oriented Marvel fans, t Mightiest Heroes” is scheduled to premiere in 2027, and it will connect with characters from “Marvel’s Spidey and his Fantastic Friends” through two special episodes, each lasting approximately 22 minutes.
7) Spider-Woman – TBC
There’s some uncertainty about whether the Spider-Woman movie will indeed be made. At present, we know it would be connected to the Spider-Verse trilogy, so Hailee Steinfeld is expected to portray the title character as Gwen Stacy Spider-Woman. It’s believed that Issa Rae might return to reprise her roles from Spider-Verse films, specifically Jessica Drew, another Spider-Woman.
It’s anticipated that Cindy Moon, also known as Silk, will make her first appearance in the Spider-Verse. The idea for a Spider-Woman film has been around since 2018, and it picked up speed when Across the Spider-Verse was released in 2023. However, progress seems to have stalled since then, so it’s likely that how Beyond the Spider-Verse performs will influence the next steps. Interestingly, there were also discussions about a live-action Spider-Woman movie directed by Olivia Wilde. Unfortunately, due to the failures of Madame Web and Kraven the Hunter within the spinoff branch of the SSU, it’s fair to say that this particular version is no longer in development.
