Please be aware that this article reveals major plot points from the *Black Clover* manga. After over ten years, Yūki Tabata’s popular action-fantasy series, *Black Clover*, is nearing its end. Originally published in *Weekly Shonen Jump*, the manga moved to *Jump GIGA* in December 2023 as it entered its final story arc. This change allows Tabata to focus on finishing the story at a sustainable pace. Despite the final arc being underway for some time, fans aren’t ready for the series to conclude.
As the epic battle against Lucius Zogratis nears its conclusion, the anime *Black Clover* is officially coming back after a four-year hiatus, picking up right where it left off before the fight began. The series spans 11 story arcs, each presenting fresh obstacles for Asta and the Magic Knights. Though every arc is exciting, some are better than others. After over a decade since the manga first appeared, which arc stands out as the best?
11) Magic Knights Entrance Exam
The first part of the series sets up the story and introduces us to the world and characters created by Tabata. Asta had a loving upbringing in his orphanage, but people in the capital city were often cruel to him because it’s unusual for someone to be born without magical power. Despite this, Asta proved himself and was chosen to join a Magic Knight Squad, even though he has no magic ability.
Yami Sukehiro, captain of the Black Bulls, is known for many things, but he uniquely recognized Asta’s potential. Meanwhile, Asta’s rival, Yuno, joined the prestigious Golden Dawn squad. The story now follows both of them as they work towards becoming the Wizard King.
10) Dungeon Exploration Arc
What started as a routine dungeon crawl unexpectedly became a combined operation for the Golden Dawn and Black Bulls Magic Knight squads. Neither squad knew the other would be there, leading to immediate conflict and arguments. Their squabbling was interrupted by soldiers from the Diamond Kingdom, a hostile nation also seeking the dungeon’s treasure. Though the combined forces of both squads seemed capable of handling the threat, the situation escalated with the sudden arrival of a powerful, unknown mage named Mars.
Honestly, seeing Mars was a real challenge – even Yuno, with all his skill, couldn’t take him down solo! But Asta just keeps proving that with enough effort, anything is possible. And wow, this arc is a game-changer! It’s only the second one, but things are already getting so much more complex with new characters who could be either friends or foes. Plus, Asta and Yuno both got seriously stronger – it’s super exciting to see where this is all going!
9) Witches’ Forest Arc
When Asta loses the use of his hands due to a curse from Vetto, Vanessa decides to take action. She returns to the Witches’ Forest – her former home and the place where she was once imprisoned – determined to find a way to save Asta’s future. Asta and his friends follow her, but they soon encounter both members of the Eye of the Midnight Sun and mages from the Diamond Kingdom.
Asta and his friends are caught in the middle of a fierce three-way fight, but things change when they discover a surprising link between Mars and Fana. The story uncovers the dark side of the Diamond Kingdom and the tragic past that turned Fana into a puppet controlled by a mysterious force. In the midst of the battle, Vanessa steps up, unleashing her powerful Red Thread of Fate, which allows her to alter the destinies of others.
8) Seabed Temple Arc
Black Clover consistently gives its female characters important roles, and recently, the spotlight was on Noelle Silva. Growing up, Noelle faced prejudice that made it difficult to control her magic, not because she lacked power, but because she lacked confidence. Despite this, she rose to the occasion and proved herself to her teammates, who trusted her with their lives during a critical mission.
She successfully led everyone to the Underwater Temple and even managed to land a powerful attack on Vetto, a key member of a dangerous terrorist group. The story also showcased the unique skills of each member of the Black Bull squad, demonstrating how much they’ve all improved during the battle. We also saw why Yami Sukehiro is their captain, as he proved his strength and leadership.
7) Royal Capital Assault Arc
Everyone thought the Royal Capital was safe because of its powerful Guardian mages, so the villains’ attack came as a complete surprise. Despite the presence of multiple Magic Knight Captains and many skilled Knights, the city quickly fell into chaos. With the Wizard King away, Fuegoleon Vermillion, captain of the Crimson Lions, stepped up to lead the response and restore order.
He didn’t just fight off the attackers; he also inspired Asta and Noelle, showing how different he is from the Royals and Nobles who dismiss those they consider weak or common. Despite this, the battle for the Royal Capital ended with the surprising loss of Fuegoleon, and the Magic Knights were left with the shame of failing to defend it. The arc also revealed that the Eye of the Midnight Sun, a previously unknown group, is a serious threat.
6) Heart Kingdom Joint Struggle Arc
Just before attacking the Spade Kingdom, Clover Kingdom’s mages trained rigorously, with some spending months honing their skills in the Heart Kingdom. The Dark Triad presents a completely new level of threat, and their combined Devil powers make them especially dangerous. Once training concluded, the villains enacted their plan, kidnapping both Yami and William Vangeance, the captain of the Golden Dawn.
Despite their victory over Dante Zogratis, Yami and Asta were caught off guard by Zenon’s sudden attack. Zenon caused widespread destruction, killing many members of the Golden Dawn, severely wounding Yuno, and capturing William before also taking Yami with him. As the Clover Kingdom fell into turmoil, Nacht Faust, the vice-captain of the Black Bulls, appeared and unlocked a hidden power within Asta.
5) Eye of the Midnight Sun Encounter Arc
Following the attack on the Royal Capital, the Black Bulls unexpectedly encounter the Eye of the Midnight Sun while on vacation, quickly finding themselves in a dangerous situation that attracts attention from those in charge. A direct confrontation between Yami and Licht, the leader of the terrorist group, finally reveals the full scope of Yami’s incredible magical abilities.
Even he finds himself in a difficult situation when the Third Eye – the organization’s three strongest members – arrive. Fortunately, three more Squad Captains show up to help, but the villains still manage to escape. This arc showcases the incredible power of the villains and their determination to destroy the Clover Kingdom.
4) Royal Knights Arc
Shonen anime often feature tournaments, and the Royal Knight Selection Exam in *Black Clover* was a great example of why they remain popular. Before the heroes faced their biggest threat, the Eye of the Midnight Sun, the Magic Knights competed in a tournament to earn a place among the Royal Knights, battling against each other in a series of exciting fights.
This story arc showcases the skills of many powerful mages and explains how they became Magic Knights. While Yuno’s battle with Rill Boismortier was a major event, the arc also focused on the Black Bulls rescuing Finral Roulacase from his stepbrother. Throughout the exciting fights, we discover the backgrounds of different characters and what motivates them to excel as Magic Knights.
3) Elf Reincarnation Arc
While the *Black Clover* manga is quite well-liked, its anime adaptation initially struggled with uninspired animation and a slow story pace. Things turned around dramatically with the Elf Reincarnation Arc, which featured much-improved visuals and is considered a standout story arc in the Shonen genre. The arc begins when a mission to defeat the Eye of the Midnight Sun goes wrong, resulting in elves being reborn into the bodies of Magic Knights and throwing the Clover Kingdom into turmoil.
This story arc reveals the hidden puppet master behind the Eye of the Midnight Sun—a powerful devil. It also delves into the history of the First Wizard King and his relationship with the elves. Finally, Asta and Yuno solidify their place as one of the greatest rivalries in Shonen anime with their battle against the elves’ true leader.
2) Final Arc
I’ve been following *Black Clover*, and even though the story’s final arc isn’t finished yet, many fans already rank it as one of the best arcs the series has offered. It’s pretty impressive, considering *Black Clover* is becoming known for having some truly great final arcs – it’s really helping the manga stay popular. We just saw a devastating battle in the Spade Kingdom, and things were finally calming down for the Clover Kingdom when Lucius Zogratis showed up and threw everything back into turmoil.
The kingdom is facing its darkest days, brought on by a single, incredibly powerful devil. Asta and Yuno team up once more to fight this threat, and they’ve both grown significantly stronger since we last saw them.
1) Spade Kingdom Raid Arc
The anime ended on a cliffhanger, just as the most exciting story arc was beginning, but thankfully, the next season should quickly pick up and cover the Spade Kingdom Raid Arc. The Magic Knights are heading into the Spade Kingdom with two goals: to defeat the powerful Dark Triad and rescue their comrades, Yami and William. Everyone has trained hard and become much stronger, but the villains have also leveled up, promising an intense battle.
This arc is packed with incredible moments – from learning about Nacht’s past, to Magna’s victory over Dante, Nozel and Noelle honoring their mother, Yuno unlocking his full potential as a prince of the Spade Kingdom, and even Asta unleashing another powerful, destructive attack. It’s hard to keep track of them all!
