The actor recently told People magazine what she thinks would happen with her character, Sophie, if there was a third movie. She imagines Sophie would be a mother now, and becoming a mom herself has given her a new perspective on the role.

Amanda Seyfried shared that she enjoys playing mothers in movies and is eager to see her character, Sophie, become a parent in a potential Mamma Mia 3. She hopes Sophie’s experience as a mother would be similar to that of her own mother, Donna, played by Meryl Streep.

I really enjoy playing characters who are mothers, and I’d love to explore the joys and challenges of raising a family on a beautiful Greek island, similar to the story of Donna and Sophie.

Seyfried suggested that showing Sophie as a mother could bring fresh depth to the story and her character. While she doesn’t know the specific plot of a potential third movie, she’s sure that if Mamma Mia 3 is made, it will feature plenty of music and dancing.

Although Amanda Seyfried isn’t sure if there will be another Mamma Mia movie, producer Judy Craymer has confirmed that Mamma Mia 3 is planned. She told Deadline a few months ago that the script is finished and the film is moving forward with development. Craymer also mentioned they’re considering adding Sabrina Carpenter to the cast.

Despite keeping the story and other details secret – even from the lead actress – the producer has confirmed that Mamma Mia 3 is definitely planned. She stated, “We have a clear idea of what we want to do, and it will happen.”

As of right now, a release date for Mamma Mia 3 hasn’t been announced.
