Building on the phenomenal achievement of Fallout, Amazon has secured the rights to yet another popular video game franchise for their streaming service, Prime Video.
According to Variety’s reports, Amazon has given the go-ahead for a live-action version of the popular episodic Life Is Strange series.
The story revolves around Max Caulfield, a 18-year-old photography enthusiast, discovering she has the unique ability to rewind time.
According to the theory of the butterfly effect, making even small changes in the here and now can significantly impact what happens later on. As a result, the story evolves differently based on the choices players make when they manipulate the world using this power.
The upcoming show is slated to be penned by Charlie Covell, the mastermind behind popular series like Netflix’s “Kaos” and “The End of the Fing World.” Covell will not only contribute as an executive producer but will also oversee the show as its showrunner.

Executive producers Dmitri M. Johnson, Mike Goldberg, and Timothy I. Stevenson will also collaborate on the project through their production company, Story Kitchen.
As a dedicated gamer, I can tell you that this series originates right from the creators themselves, Square Enix, alongside partners like Story Kitchen, Lucky Chap, and Amazon MGM Studios.
In the context of the project, Johnson and Goldberg from Story Kitchen expressed their view that “Life is Strange” is not just a game, but rather a significant cultural reference point for many.
Following a ten-year voyage, it’s an honor for us to present this cherished tale in collaboration with Amazon MGM, alongside our exceptional partners at Square Enix, our talented showrunner/writer Charlie Covell, and the fantastic LuckyChap team.
Unified, this carefully chosen squad is all set to present Life Is Strange in a completely fresh perspective!
Covell expressed equal excitement about contributing to the project, saying, “It’s a great privilege to bring Life Is Strange to life under Amazon MGM Studios. As a devoted fan of the game myself, I am overjoyed to collaborate with the talented squads at Square Enix, Story Kitchen, and Lucky Chap.
“I can’t wait to share Max and Chloe’s story with fellow players and new audiences alike.”
The initial release of Life Is Strange back in 2015 was met with much praise from both critics and gamers, primarily due to its compelling characters and narrative.
Since its release, the sequels Life Is Strange 2 (in two parts from 2018 and 2019) and Life Is Strange: Double Exposure in 2024, have faced mixed opinions, often being criticized for missing elements that made the original series so unique.
