Stephen King’s classic novel, Carrie, is being adapted again, and the timing seems ideal. Carrie holds a special place as King’s first published book. Interestingly, he initially discarded the manuscript, believing it wasn’t good enough, but his wife encouraged him to revise it. The book eventually launched his career a few years after he began publishing short stories. While Carrie has been adapted for the screen several times before, this new version is expected to be the most compelling since the original 1970s film starring Sissy Spacek.
The highly anticipated ‘Carrie’ remake, helmed by Stephen King adaptation expert Mike Flanagan, now has a release date. Actress Katee Sackhoff revealed at Fan Expo Vancouver on February 14th that the show will premiere on Amazon in October 2026. She described the upcoming series as ‘very good’ and promised fans are ‘in for a treat’.
That was the only hint she gave about the upcoming Carrie series. When pressed for details about the plot, Katee Sackhoff explained she couldn’t reveal anything specific. She did offer a little more information, but it was just stuff Stephen King fans already know. “It’s ‘Carrie,’ so expect fire… and maybe some blood,” she joked. “I’m really excited about it, and I think you all will be too. Mike Flanagan is fantastic at creating smart, psychological horror.”
Carrie Streaming Series Promises to Be Very Different

Mike Flanagan has warned fans that his upcoming adaptation won’t be a typical retelling of the classic story. The original Carrie, starring Sissy Spacek and Piper Laurie, was released in 1976 just two years after the novel came out. While a poorly received sequel, The Rage: Carrie 2, followed in 1999, there have been other attempts to revisit the story, including a 2002 screenplay by Bryan Fuller (known for Hannibal) and a 2013 remake starring Chloë Grace Moretz and Julianne Moore.
Many consider this miniseries to be the most faithful adaptation since the 1976 film. Director Mike Flanagan has a proven track record with horror and gothic stories, delivering excellent miniseries like The Haunting of Hill House and Midnight Mass. In addition to his work on Carrie, he’s also set to remake The Mist, building on his success with other Stephen King adaptations like Gerald’s Game and Doctor Sleep.
Having Mike Flanagan, a talented creator of horror miniseries, lead the remake of Carrie is fantastic news. Prime Video’s decision to release it during Halloween is perfectly timed. This series could easily be the standout horror event of 2026.
