The Ones Who Live, which aired last year. Additionally, the show is proving to be popular on AMC+, with the network stating that it’s currently among the top new series in terms of viewership and subscriptions. The series is an adaptation of Jules Verne’s classic science fiction novel, Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, and features Shazad Latif, known for his role in Star Trek: Discovery, as one of its stars.
The TV series titled “Nautilus” had a rocky pathway to television screens. Initially designed for Disney+, the streaming platform decided to terminate the show before it even premiered. Despite production being completed, the show was then offered to other networks and AMC eventually took it over, planning to air it in 2024. Although the series didn’t debut as scheduled in 2024, the decision seemed beneficial for both AMC and AMC+, as the program garnered impressive viewership figures upon its launch.
Disney+ initially removed Nautilus as a cost-reduction strategy, intending to eventually recover some of the funds they spent on the sci-fi show‘s production. Given that the series has proven successful for AMC, it seems their decision to buy the series from Disney was wise, as the show continues to perform well.
What Is Nautilus About?
In this series, Latif portrays Captain Nemo, a character born as an Indian prince who was wrongfully deprived of his inheritance and loved ones. Captured by the East India Mercantile Company, Nemo’s life is marked by a desire for vengeance against those responsible. To achieve his goal, he commandeers a cutting-edge submarine and gathers a diverse group of fellow prisoners to accompany him on his underwater journey. Joining Nemo on screen are actors such as Georgia Flood, Thierry Frémont, Muki Zubis, Pacharo Mzembe, Arlo Green, Chum Ehelepola, Tyrone Ngatai, Ling Cooper Tang, Andrew Shaw, Ashan Kumar, Céline Menville, Kayden Price, Damien Garvey, Richard E. Grant, Benedict Hardie, Jacob Collins-Levy, and Luke Arnold.
As a passionate cinephile, I’m thrilled to share that this captivating series is a brainchild of Moonriver TV’s Xavier Marchand and Seven Stories’ Anand Tucker – a dynamic duo who not only conceived but also brought the project to life. The visionary James Dormer penned the script and served as an executive producer, ensuring a compelling narrative throughout.
Prior to leading “Nautilus,” James Latif graced our screens in series such as “Penny Dreadful” portraying Dr. Henry Jekyll, “Star Trek: Discovery” where he played Ash Tyler, and “The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance,” lending his voice to the character Kylan. In cinemas, you may recognize him from movies like “The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel” and “What’s Love Got to Do with It?”.
The TV series “Nautilus” will carry on airing its first season every Sunday on both AMC and AMC+. Its first season concludes with a finale set for August 17th. At this point, it’s uncertain if there will be a second season, but that information should become clear after the final episode when the network has had time to assess its overall success. If you haven’t seen the premiere of “Nautilus”, you can find it exclusively on AMC+.
