For PC gamers, AMD’s Ryzen processors with their special 3D V-Cache technology are widely considered the best. Currently, the Ryzen 7 9800X3D is the leading choice, taking over from the previous favorite, the Ryzen 7 7800X3D.

While AMD has even more powerful processors like the Ryzen 9 9900X3D and 9950X3D, the 9800X3D stands out for most gamers because it delivers excellent performance at a great price.

AMD appears to be preparing a faster version of one of its most popular gaming processors. The company accidentally revealed this when it published a listing for the Ryzen 7 9850X3D on its website, as noticed by a user named Olrak29_ on November 29, 2025. The new chip will have a slightly higher clock speed than the current model.

The AMD webpage listing the product is no longer available—it now shows an error message. However, thanks to information shared by a leaker on X (g01d3nm4ng0), we still have some details.

AMD is planning new Ryzen processors! The Ryzen 9 9950X3D will feature 16 cores and 32 threads, a massive 192MB of L3 cache, and clock speeds up to 5.6GHz (base 4.3GHz), with a power draw of 200W. The Ryzen 7 9850X3D will have 8 cores and 16 threads, 96MB of L3 cache, and speeds up to 5.6GHz (base 4.7GHz) while using 120W. These processors are expected to be released on October 21, 2025.

The new 9850X3D processor is expected to have the same 8 cores and 16 threads as the 9800X3D, but with a faster boost clock speed of up to 5.6GHz, an increase from the 9800X3D’s 5.2GHz. It’s also predicted to use about the same amount of power, around 120W.

I’ve also seen references to a Ryzen 9 9950X3D2, which has been circulating as a rumor for a while now, though AMD hasn’t officially confirmed it. What’s particularly interesting is the “X3D2” designation – it suggests this chip might feature two X3D tiles. This would significantly increase the amount of V-Cache, and as we know, a larger V-Cache can dramatically improve performance, especially in PC gaming.

The Ryzen 7 9850X3D chip, briefly listed on AMD’s site, appears to offer only a small increase in maximum clock speed and doesn’t seem to include any other upgrades.

It’s hard to say who this chip is really for, considering the Ryzen 9 9900X3D already exists and offers more processing power and faster speeds for demanding users.

The Ryzen 7 9800X3D costs around $479, and can often be found on sale for less. The 9900X3D typically sells for about $599 before discounts. AMD could release another processor between these two models, but because the 9800X3D is widely available and cheaper, they’ll need to clearly demonstrate that any new chip offers a significant performance boost to justify its cost as an upgrade.

It might eventually become the replacement for the 9800X3D, and I’m looking forward to learning more from AMD at CES 2026.
