American Idol Finalist Keyla Richardson’s Mom Says She Was “Robbed”

Keyla Richardson’s mother did not expect her to have a moment like this.

Following the season 24 finale of American Idol on May 11th, where Hannah Harper won and Jordan McCullough came in second, the mother of the third-place finalist, Katja Richardson, said she was surprised her daughter didn’t take home the win.

On May 11th, Katja posted on Facebook that her child hadn’t failed, but had been cheated. She expressed strong feelings about the situation, stating plainly that someone had taken something from her child unfairly.

Keyla began the finale by singing Alicia Keys’ “Un-Thinkable (I’m Ready)” as a tribute to her mentor, and then performed “I Love The Lord” for the hometown round of the show.

And judges Luke Bryan, Lionel Richie and Carrie Underwood were indeed wowed by her time on the ABC show.

Luke told her, “All year, I’ve been so impressed watching you work with such focus and determination. You’ve poured your heart and soul into taking care of your family, your team, and everyone around you, and we all think you’ve succeeded.”

He continued, saying that watching her make the most of every opportunity had been truly inspiring. He then congratulated her and praised her work.

Although the 29-year-old didn’t address her mother’s statements, she did acknowledge her third-place achievement.

She shared on Instagram after the show ended that the experience had been incredible, and hinted at more to come with the hashtag #Idol.

Keyla connected with Breanna Nix, another singer from American Idol. Breanna finished third on the most recent season of the show.

On May 12th, Keyla celebrated making it to the Top 3 on seasons 23 and 24 of the show, writing on Instagram that she felt fantastic about the accomplishment. She expressed excitement for the future and sent love to fellow finalist Breanna Nix, adding that things can only get better from here. #Idol #Top3

Hannah, the 25-year-old winner, described her feelings after the victory last night.

Oh my gosh, she posted! It said, ‘What a wild, beautiful journey this has been,’ and I literally screamed! But then she added, ‘And somehow we’re just getting started,’ and I think I actually stopped breathing. It’s like, everything up to now has been amazing, but the BEST is still to come! I’m so obsessed and can’t wait to see what happens next!

Hannah expressed her gratitude to everyone who supported her – those who believed in her, prayed for her, and voted for her. She said their help made her dream a reality and completely changed her life.

Wow, looking at Kelly Clarkson’s journey is truly inspiring! As someone who follows these things, it’s amazing to think back to her beginnings on the very first season of American Idol in 2002. Since then, she’s become a musical powerhouse – three Grammys, three chart-topping hits, and a stint as a judge on The Voice! And now, she’s wrapping up her incredible run hosting The Kelly Clarkson Show, which has been such a success. It just goes to show what hard work and talent can achieve!

The runner-up from season two of the show shared two important things in September 2008: he announced the birth of his son, Parker, with his friend and music producer Jaymes Foster, and that this inspired him to come out as gay. He explained on Good Morning America that he couldn’t teach his son to lie or hide things, and he wanted to create an environment where his son could be himself, no matter what.

Since then, this well-known performer with red hair moved from a music career into politics, even running for Congress in 2016. After losing the election, he released a documentary about his life. However, he hasn’t completely stopped making music, and in 2023 and 2024, he toured the country with season two winner Ruben Studdard.

Ruben, the winner of season two of Idol, went on to achieve significant success, including a Grammy nomination and several popular albums. Later, in 2013, he appeared as a contestant on The Biggest Loser, where he quickly became a favorite among viewers. Though eliminated twice, he gained important insights from the experience. Despite remaining close with fellow Idol contestant Clay, Ruben found lasting love with his wife, Kristin, and they welcomed their second child in 2024.

The season three champion recently reflected on her incredible journey, expressing gratitude for every experience, both good and bad. She told TopMob News in December 2023, “Life has its ups and downs, but it’s about getting back up after you fall.” Overcoming significant challenges, including twice rebuilding her life, makes her current success even more rewarding.

Beyond her career, she’s celebrated personal milestones like welcoming daughter Keziah with husband Kendall Taylor in 2021, and receiving a Golden Globe nomination for The Color Purple remake. As a mother to both Keziah and her adult daughter Zion, she shared that she wants to savor this moment and appreciate all the hard work she put in to get here.

Although she didn’t win season three of the competition, this musician has achieved incredible success! She won an Oscar for Dreamgirls in 2006 and a Grammy for her work in the 2017 adaptation of The Color Purple. She’s also been a judge on The Voice. Most recently, this mother to son David is launching her own talk show.

Carrie Underwood quickly became a pop culture icon the moment she appeared on Idol, and she went on to win season four. Since then, she’s become one of the biggest stars in country music. For over a decade, she also co-hosted the CMA Awards with Brad Paisley. In addition to her successful music career and hosting duties, Carrie is a mom to two sons with her husband, retired hockey player Mike Fisher.

Carrie Underwood will be joining the judging panel of American Idol in 2024, taking over for Katy Perry.

The singer who finished second on season four of the show is now married with four children – three sons and a daughter. Even after battling significant health issues in 2006, he’s continued to release several successful albums since appearing on Idol.

Constantine, known for his powerful voice and memorable performance of “Bohemian Rhapsody” on season four of a singing competition, found success on Broadway in Rock of Ages, earning him a Tony nomination. The father of daughter Malena, born in 2010, continued his stage career with a role in the 2023 production, Rock & Roll Man.

Following his win on season five, the singer released a platinum-selling album and appeared in a Broadway production of Grease. In 2016, he transitioned to television, hosting State-Plate, a show centered around locally sourced food. Despite his TV work, he still loves music and continues to perform in concerts.

Before Justin Bieber captivated fans, Katharine McPhee gained attention through what some called “McPheever,” which launched her career in both singing and acting. She’s best known for her roles in the musical drama Smash and the series Scorpion.

Married to music producer David Foster since 2019, Katharine is now a mother to her son, Rennie, who shows a natural talent for music. In a 2023 interview with TopMob News, she shared her hope that Rennie will become proficient in playing many instruments, just like his father. However, she emphasized that they aren’t pressuring him, but simply encouraging his musical interests. She believes he’s well on his way to developing a strong understanding of music.

Following his appearance on American Idol, season five finalist Elliott Yamin, known for his song “Wait for You,” traveled to Angola. There, he teamed up with former Idol judge Kara DioGuardi to support Malaria No More. In 2010, Yamin also gained attention for surviving the earthquake in Chile and sharing his experience on Twitter. He continues to make music and is a father to Camilla, with Karen Cruz.

Kellie Pickler gained recognition after placing sixth on the fifth season of American Idol. She later appeared in Hallmark’s Christmas in Graceland and received three Daytime Emmy nominations for her TV show, Pickler & Ben.

Following the tragic death of her husband, Kyle Jacobs, in February 2023, Kellie shared a valuable lesson he taught her. In times of crisis, he advised simply ‘do nothing, just be still.’ As she told People magazine in 2023, she is choosing to follow his guidance.

Wow, where do I even begin with this incredible talent? Back in 2007, she made history as the youngest female winner, and things just exploded from there! She toured the country with her show, hitting 35 cities, and then completely surprised everyone with her Broadway debut in In the Heights in 2010. Her luck continued, and in May 2018, she welcomed her first son with Dana Isaiah. It’s been amazing to watch her journey, including a really touching return to Idol and a recent turn on Dancing With the Stars – she’s truly a multi-talented star!

David, the season seven winner known for his hit song “Time of My Life,” has achieved success both on and off stage. In 2010, he traveled to Ethiopia with the United Nations to support their work empowering women. He also participated in the Race for Hope in Washington D.C., raising money for brain cancer research in memory of his brother, Adam, who passed away in 2009. Married to Racheal Stump since 2015, David continues to tour and released his latest single, “TABOS,” in 2022.

After placing second on season seven of a singing competition alongside another contestant named David, he spent two years serving a mission in Chile for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He resumed performing after returning in 2014.

He publicly came out as LGBTQ+ in June 2021. In an October 2023 Instagram post, he shared, “It’s been a beautiful journey learning to accept myself,” and expressed hope that living authentically would inspire others to do the same.

While Adam Lambert received a lot of attention as the runner-up, season eight winner David Cook has steadily built a successful career. His second album, released in November 2009, reached No. 11 on the Billboard 200 chart, and his song “I Need to Know” was used in an episode of The Vampire Diaries. Recently, Cook has also been focused on his personal life, welcoming three children with his wife, Katy O’Connell, whom he’s been with since high school.

The runner-up from the eighth season has truly benefited from the attention he received on the show. Since then, he’s released multiple albums, gone on tour, and been nominated for many awards. He’s even followed in the footsteps of Freddie Mercury by becoming the lead singer for Queen, and starred in a remake of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. He’s also returned to the show as a guest judge and kicked off the 2019 Oscars with performances of Queen’s iconic songs, “We Will Rock You” and “We Are the Champions.”

Let me tell you a little about Danny Gokey’s personal life! After finishing season eight of American Idol, he married Leyicet Peralta in 2012, and they’ve built a beautiful family together – they’re now parents to four wonderful children. It’s so inspiring to see how he balances his career and family life!

Danny Gokey, a three-time Grammy nominee, released the Christian album Jesus People in 2021. He’s also the founder of Danny Gokey Eyewear, a brand selling glasses and sunglasses.

Following his appearance as a top 10 finalist on the summer tour in 2010, the season nine winner began his career as a solo musician. He married model and actress Jonna Walsh in 2012 after meeting her while filming his first music video after Idol. Today, he’s a successful singer-songwriter, and his music has even been featured on shows like The Walking Dead.

The singer, who finished as a runner-up on season nine of a reality show, married musician Brian Walker and released her debut album, Farmer’s Daughter, in December 2010. Although her record label closed down, she later began acting, appearing on the second season of ABC’s Body of Proof.

In May 2013, she and her husband separated. Following their divorce, she described her second album, All That For This, as a fresh start and the next phase of her life in an interview with The Boot.

I was absolutely thrilled when Scotty McCreery won season 10! He reminded me so much of Ruben Studdard, and it was amazing to see his first album, Clear as Day, go straight to number one on the Billboard 200 – it had been a while since an Idol winner had done that! He really hit the ground running, being named New Artist of the Year at the 2011 American Country Awards and even singing the national anthem at the World Series that same year. On a personal note, I was so happy to hear he married his longtime girlfriend, Gabi Dugal, in June 2018. And most recently, they welcomed their son, Avery, in October 2022 – it’s wonderful to see him so happy!

Though she came in second place on the show, this country singer quickly signed a record deal and released her first album, Wildflower, in October 2011. After appearing on the show, she performed at the CMT Music Awards with the winner, made her debut at the Grand Ole Opry, and even shared the stage with Martina McBride at the CMA Music Festival.

In 2017, she received her first CMA nomination for Best New Artist thanks to the success of her album, Road Less Traveled. She also expanded her career to acting, starring in a film with the same name as her album.

More recently, the singer announced her engagement to Cam Arnold while performing at the Grand Ole Opry in November 2022, and the couple married in February 2024.

Although he only placed sixth in season 10, this contestant quickly became a fan favorite. He joined the Idols Live tour and recorded a cover of “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” with fellow finalist and potential romantic interest, Haley Reinhart. He eventually signed with the jazz label Concord. His first self-titled album came out in 2012, followed by I Put A Spell On You in 2018 and Jazz in 2019.

Jimmie Allen was eliminated before the live shows on season 10 of a singing competition, but he’s since become a successful country artist with two chart-topping songs: “Best Shot” (2018) and “Make Me Want To.” He also won the Country Music Association Award for New Artist of the Year in 2021.

In April 2023, Jimmie and his wife, Alexis Allen, announced they were expecting their third child while also ending their two-year marriage. Shortly after, Jimmie was accused of sexual assault and abuse by his former manager in a lawsuit. He admitted to having an affair and publicly apologized to Alexis for the pain it caused, but denied the allegations of misconduct, claiming his relationship with his manager was consensual.

After welcoming their son, Cohen Ace James, in September, the couple announced they were working to reconcile their marriage.

Following his win on season 11, the musician’s single “Home” became a chart-topping hit and was also featured as the theme song for NBC’s 2012 Summer Olympics coverage.

In 2015, he married Hannah Blackwell in a private ceremony with loved ones. They later had a son named Patch in 2019.

The singer hinted to TopMob News before releasing her 2019 album, Whirlwind, that it features a wide variety of musical styles. She explained that, a year after winning Idol, she didn’t want to limit herself to a single sound because she enjoyed exploring different genres.

Since finishing as a finalist on season 16 of the show, the singer has been busy making music and taking advantage of the opportunities that came with being on ABC. Caleb Lee told TopMob News that he’s always been passionate about music and becoming a performer, but the show taught him a lot about the entertainment industry. He even had the chance to join Luke Bryan on stage during Bryan’s final tour stop. Caleb released his newest album, Southern Galactic, in October 2023.

Following her third-place finish on season 16 of Idol, singer Gabby Barrett dedicated herself to completing her album. She expressed her excitement about performing at Stagecoach and called touring with Brad Paisley a fantastic bonus. “It’s amazing to be touring with him,” she told TopMob News.

Gabby and her husband, Cade Foehner, who also appeared on Idol, welcomed their first child, daughter Baylah, almost two years ago. They then added son Augustine to their family in October 2022, and welcomed their third child in February 2024.
