Judy Maurer recounted observing Amy in Barbados during March 2005 on the Dr. Phil show, which she later shared with the FBI. According to her account in the series, while in a souvenir shop bathroom, she encountered a distraught woman at the sinks who introduced herself as Amy. There was also a man near the door, and Maurer recalled mentioning to her husband that the girl seemed to be under duress, suggesting she was being coerced into something.

Although Amy’s mother found the FBI’s photo analysis painful, she also saw it as a possible indication that there was still hope.
