As fall arrives and the days get shorter, people begin looking for movies to enjoy, whether during a relaxing afternoon or a cozy evening. While fall often means it’s “spooky season,” not everyone is in the mood for frights. Some prefer a thought-provoking sci-fi film, and this September, Paramount+ is offering a true masterpiece of the genre that fits the bill perfectly.
The critically acclaimed film *Arrival*, directed by Denis Villeneuve (known for *Dune*) and starring Jeremy Renner and Amy Adams, is now streaming on Paramount+ again. It was briefly available earlier this year but had been removed. Now, viewers can once more enjoy what many consider to be one of the greatest movies about first contact with aliens.
Arrival Is The Perfect First Contact Movie

The movie *Arrival* is based on Ted Chiang’s 1998 short story, “Story of Your Life.” Amy Adams plays Louise Banks, a linguist brought in by the U.S. Army to try and communicate with aliens who have arrived on Earth. These aliens have incredibly advanced technology that humans don’t understand, and they don’t share any language or characteristics with people. Louise’s work is crucial because the aliens’ arrival has created a lot of fear – without communication, people assume they’re here to attack. Jeremy Renner co-stars as physicist Ian Donnelly.
Although Arrival might seem like a typical alien invasion film, it’s actually a much deeper story about what it means to be human. Instead of focusing on the aliens themselves, the movie explores themes of love, loss, and destiny through a complex, non-linear narrative. The story centers around Louise and her daughter, initially presented as a tale of grief, but quickly reveals a more intricate and thought-provoking premise: would you embrace a future, even knowing its pain? It’s a haunting and tragic story, beautifully directed by Denis Villeneuve and powerfully acted by Amy Adams and Jeremy Renner, becoming even more impactful with each viewing.
Arrival Isn’t The Only Great Movie Arriving on Paramount+ This Month
Though *Arrival* is a standout sci-fi film, it’s just one of many great movies now available on Paramount+. The streaming service has added a diverse selection of content, ensuring there’s something for everyone-even if you’re not in the mood for a thought-provoking story about aliens. With Halloween approaching, horror fans will be especially pleased with additions like *The Crow*, *I Know What You Did Last Summer*, the first eight *Friday the 13th* movies, and more. Marvel enthusiasts will also find something to enjoy, with all three original *Blade* films now streaming. You can find a complete list of September’s new releases here.
