In simpler terms, one of the most skilled fighters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is gaining a new ability. While the powerful team known as Earth’s Mightiest Heroes possess diverse skills, the everyday heroes who protect our streets often rely on their innate talents, with only occasional exceptions. For instance, Daredevil has extraordinary hearing, Jessica Jones and Luke Cage are extraordinarily strong, and Danny Rand can control the Iron Fist. In the battle against crime, any edge is valuable. Fans will soon discover that a new member of the MCU’s street-level team is receiving a power upgrade.
Marvel Comics is honoring Native American Heritage Month with the special one-shot comic “Echo: Seeker of Truth”, co-written by Jimmy “Taboo” Gomez, a member of Black Eyed Peas, and B. Earl, featuring artwork by Jim Terry. The character’s original co-creator, David Mack, is also contributing to the main cover. Taboo and B. Earl have teamed up again following their collaboration on the 2023 “Daredevil & Echo” limited series which was released around the same time as the “Echo” show on Hulu/Disney+. In “Echo: Seeker of Truth”, fans can expect Echo to uncover a new ability that will reshape her journeys within the Marvel Universe.
What Does This Change Mean for Echo in the MCU?
Alaqua Cox initially played Maya Lopez/Echo in the series “Hawkeye,” later reprising her role in the standalone show named “Echo.” The release of “Echo” on Hulu and Disney+ was rather low-key, continuing Echo’s storyline that began in “Hawkeye.” In this earlier series, she was a member of Wilson Fisk/Kingpin’s gang, only to later discover Fisk was responsible for her father’s death. Consequently, Echo confronted Fisk and shot him, marking a significant turning point. Both Kingpin and Daredevil made appearances in “Echo,” leaving fans curious about whether we might see more of Echo in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) in the future.
In a fresh turn of events, “Echo: Seeker of Truth” transports a brave Cheyenne and Mexican American heroine to bustling Los Angeles, where she must shield her loved ones from an emerging danger. As she embarks on this perilous journey, Echo finds herself uncovering a hidden aspect of her heritage, while simultaneously unlocking a newfound power. The creative minds behind “Echo: Seeker of Truth” may decide to elaborate further on Echo’s existing ability to mimic others’ moves and fighting styles or introduce an entirely novel development. Interestingly, during Jason Aaron’s tenure on “Avengers,” Echo once possessed the might of the Phoenix Force, though she is no longer in possession of that power.

- NEW AGE OF ECHO!
- When her cousin goes missing in Los Angeles, ECHO goes to the City of Angels to find out what happened to her. But what she discovers is a series of disappearances centered around a mysterious wellness cult called Wisteria Meadows. As Echo dives deeper into the mystery, she’ll discover a truth about herself she never imagined. But who is the faceless puppet master behind the cult, and what is their sinister plan?
Taboo expressed that penning our second Echo tale is like possessing an extraordinary ability or force. As a Native American/Mexican storyteller with great pride, having the opportunity to collaborate on tales about superheroes that resonate within the Marvel Universe, feels like healing medicine and is vital for motivating our readers. Portraying Echo as our hero is similar to crafting a vivid mural in the comic book world. It’s not just about storytelling; it’s about building links to communities, fostering empowerment, and providing genuine representation.
B. Earl expressed enthusiasm about reimagining Echo’s story, merging mythology with contemporary culture, stating, ‘It’s thrilling to return to Echo, enriching her powers in a narrative that adds depth to her capabilities.’ When the team was tasked with creating a new power for her, they incorporated it into a language reminiscent of our own mythos, first introduced in a previous series. This story is also a tribute to Los Angeles, being a native East Coaster who yearned to reach Hollywood and eventually found myself embarking on this remarkable Marvel odyssey with Taboo, which has been ongoing for several years.’
