2025 delivered some fantastic horror films, including popular releases like Sinners, 28 Years Later, and Weapons. However, the year also had a number of lesser-known, but excellent, movies. Films like the clever mockumentary Strange Harvest and the chilling Rabbit Trap didn’t get as much attention at the time. Now, one of these hidden gems is finally getting its moment, as it’s become available to stream on Shudder.
The horror thriller Honey Bunch, which premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival last year, will be available to stream on Shudder starting February 13th. The film reunites directors Madeleine Sims-Fewer and Dusty Mancinelli, who previously worked together on the horror drama Violation. Honey Bunch tells a chilling story about a woman experiencing strange events while receiving experimental treatment for memory loss. Though it received excellent reviews at film festivals, limited theatrical release (primarily in Canada in January) meant it flew under the radar in 2025 – but it’s definitely worth watching.
Honey Bunch Is a Darkly Comedic Psychological Horror-Thriller
You might not be familiar with Honey Bunch, but it’s quickly gaining attention as a standout horror film. Critics love it – it currently has an 87% score on Rotten Tomatoes, and one of our own reviewers gave it a 3.5 out of 5. If you enjoy atmospheric, slow-building horror like A Cure for Wellness or The Wicker Man, or generally appreciate unique indie films, Honey Bunch is a great choice. It’s a truly unusual horror movie, blending elements of 70s gothic horror, science fiction, romance, and dark comedy into an unsettling and personal nightmare.
Honey Bunch starts as a realistic story about a couple trying experimental therapy, but quickly becomes a strange and unsettling look at a deeply unhealthy relationship and control over one’s own body. It’s hard to know what’s real, as the movie jumps between what seems like memories, dreams, and actual events, keeping you guessing throughout. The film perfectly captures the look and feel of the 1970s, creating a dreamy but disturbing atmosphere, enhanced by a fantastic soundtrack and some genuinely creepy special effects.
What’s New on Shudder?
For horror enthusiasts, Shudder is the ultimate streaming destination. It focuses solely on horror, thriller, and supernatural films and series, and they’re constantly adding new content. February brought titles like Honey Bunch, The Boxer’s Omen, Oily Maniac, A Chinese Ghost Story, and Nina Forever, and more are coming throughout the month.
