A hidden horror movie from 2025 has recently become available on HBO Max, and fans of the show Hannibal won’t want to miss it. Hannibal is still considered one of the best horror shows ever made. During its three seasons on NBC, it was known for its artistic style and shocking violence, pushing the limits of what was shown on network television. Now, ten years after the show ended in 2015, the cast and creators have reunited for a movie that unfortunately didn’t get much attention.
As of April 17th, the movie Dust Bunny, from Lionsgate, is now available to stream on HBO Max. The film reunites Hannibal creator Bryan Fuller with star Mads Mikkelsen. Fuller both wrote and directed this horror-thriller, where Mikkelsen plays a quiet, professional hitman. He’s hired by his eight-year-old neighbor, who believes a terrifying creature living under her bed ate her parents. Together, they fight off both the monster and dangerous assassins, while also dealing with painful memories from their past.
Mads Mikkelsen and Bryan Fuller’s Dust Bunny Reunion Was Worth the Wait
The partnership between Mads Mikkelsen and showrunner Bryan Fuller on Hannibal was a remarkable achievement in television. Dust Bunny successfully continues their creative energy, offering a fitting, though distinct, follow-up. The film effectively addresses the absence of the beloved series, serving as a spiritual successor with a similar dark and visually striking style, after a decade-long wait, and unfolding within a fresh, exciting world.
Critics and audiences overwhelmingly loved Dust Bunny. It earned an 85% “Certified Fresh” score on Rotten Tomatoes, along with an 82% audience rating, making it one of the best-reviewed films starring Mads Mikkelsen. This is a significant improvement from the director’s previous film, Carrie (2002), which received a 20% critic score. Reviewers have described Dust Bunny as a blend of John Wick and Annie, and as a visually striking, darkly whimsical fairy tale. The film stands out for its imaginative combination of childlike innocence with monster-movie thrills and action-packed sequences. It’s a colorful and stylish film, powerfully grounded by Mikkelsen’s understated performance. Overall, Dust Bunny is a unique, entertaining movie that’s well worth watching.
What’s New on HBO Max?
If you enjoy the new animated film Dust Bunny on HBO Max, you’ll have plenty more to watch! The streaming service has added a ton of great movies and shows this April, including most of the Alien films, Practical Magic, The Mummy series, and Game Night. Plus, you can catch the final season of Hacks, a new season of Euphoria, and more episodes of Smiling Friends.
