Warning: This article contains major spoilers for And Just Like That’s episode “Present Tense.”
And Just Like That…it’s the end of Aidan and Carrie.
Over a span of two seasons, Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) and her long-distance partner Aidan Shaw (John Corbett) grappled with the question of whether they would or wouldn’t wait for one another across five years. Now, it has been confirmed that their revived romance has finally drawn to a close.
In the July 24th episode of the show titled “Present Tense”, Carrie admits to Seema (Sarita Choudhury) that she believes Aidan continues to struggle with trust issues, despite the fact that she was unfaithful to him in the past with her former husband Mr. Big (Chris Noth). Upon hearing this confession, Seema acknowledges that Aidan’s actions are understandable, as he questioned Carrie about her relationship with their neighbor and writing partner Duncan (Jonathan Cake).
After a heated argument between Carrie and Aidan that left Carrie sleeping alone angrily, they both tried to resolve their difficulties when they met again the following day. Yet, Carrie soon discovers that Aidan’s trust concerns persistently linger in their relationship, regardless of what they do.
“I was 100 percent in,” she tells Aidan, who asks, “Is it was or are you still 100 percent in?”
As for Carrie, she tearfully replies, “Was.”
“I can’t give you any more than I have,” Carrie says. “And it wasn’t enough.”
In a choked-up voice, Aidan admits, “I was hopeful we’d succeed this time, but I’m deeply saddened now,” and Carrie responds sympathetically, “I share your sorrow.
In the second season, Carrie’s boyfriend Aidan reappeared. After dealing with the loss of her husband Big, she made adjustments in her life, such as leaving her renowned West Village apartment, enduring an uneasy weekend with his family in Virginia, and striving to maintain their long-distance relationship according to his preferences.
Nonetheless, even though there were obstacles in their relationship, Sarah Jessica found great joy in collaborating with John once more in person.
In an interview with People in 2023, she expressed her joy of being back with [John]. She has openly admired him, appreciating his ease during collaborations and the high level of skill he possesses in his field. Despite making it seem effortless, she acknowledged that it’s indeed hard work.
She remarked, “He has an extraordinary ability to bring Aidan’s character to life off the page in a manner unique to him.” She continued, “It simply felt very natural and joyful.

Ugh, what an a–hole.
Best moment: N/A.
After experiencing so much unpleasant, passive-aggressive behavior from him later on, it’s challenging to recall their early, lighthearted, and sweet interactions filled with banter. HE SPLIT UP WITH HER BY LEAVING A NOTE ON A POST-IT.
Best moment: None are coming to mind at the moment, Berger. We’re sorry, we can’t. Don’t hate us.
No one believed this relationship would last, right? Still, Samantha gave it the ol’ college try.
Highlighting Moment: Following an evening spent with Carrie and her latest companion (Big received a warning from Samantha to step aside), Maria confided in Samantha that their friendship couldn’t continue as usual.
In the thrilling return of Max’s series, “And Just Like That…”, who would have guessed that good old Miranda would ditch her marital vows for a cross-country chase after a hilarious stand-up comic? Quite the unexpected twist, don’t you think?
Most Humorous Incident: The funniest part undoubtedly occurs when Che and Miranda get together in Carrie’s kitchen, all the while a post-hip-surgery Carrie is experiencing an involuntary accident involving incontinence in her own bed.
It turned out that the romance between the Russian man and Carrie was more fiction than fact. He struggled to connect with her friends, and Carrie’s sudden decision to move to Paris turned out to be a misstep.
My Favorite Memory: I was so smitten after witnessing countless romantic overtures, yet nothing could compare to the moment when Petrovsky whisked Carrie off her feet in her fairytale gown. Instead of a grand ballroom, they found themselves at McDonald’s, their bodies swaying gracefully as we waited for our fries to cook. It was a moment that left me breathless with delight.
Initially, Trey seemed like an ideal match for Charlotte on paper. However, flaws started emerging post-wedding (such as an overbearing mother, impotence issues, disinterest in having children, and giving her a cardboard baby cut-out). What kind of person does something like that?!
In a heartfelt gesture, I cherished the unforgettable instant when I escorted Charlotte to Tiffany’s, enabling her to choose her ideal ring as a token of my sincere apology for the now-infamous “Alrighty!” remark.
Samantha’s initial non-sexual relationship terminated due to, you could say, sexual differences, or more specifically, James’ smaller-than-usual anatomy.
Best moment: When Samantha told James she loved him. A huge (no pun intended) moment for her.
Poor, poor Skipper. He was kind of like a Steve-lite, and Miranda was able to walk all over him.
Best moment: When he calls her “luminous” during their chance meeting at a bodega.
In the films, an unexpected romantic pairing emerged between Carrie’s closest friend and Charlotte’s wedding organizer who later became her best friend. While it initially seemed unconventional, we found it to be quite fitting.
Precious Memory: One of the most touching moments was during their wedding vows, when Anthony expressed, “It wasn’t an immediate love, but in retrospect, it was love all along. You are the first person to truly accept me for who I genuinely am.
Aidan turned out to be a wonderful individual, but he wasn’t Carrie’s ideal match – no matter how desperately they both wanted it to work. Yet, it seems that the concept of second chances is gaining popularity this summer, as hinted by season two of And Just Like That…. (Let’s ignore their brief encounter in Sex and the City 2 for now.)
Most memorable moment: Isn’t it a bit peculiar that we found their second breakup scene, where they spent the night on the floor of an apartment they’d never share again, particularly touching?
Discuss the dilemma. Robert was nearly flawless: he served as an attractive physician for the New York Knicks, sharing the same television preferences as Miranda. However, his sole weakness lay in not being a Steve-like figure.
Most Memorable Moment: The first time they locked lips, which was equivalent to their mailboxes. Alternatively, it could be when she decided to take a day off work for the very first time, especially for him. Lastly, but not least, there was that unforgettable moment when one of them contracted chickenpox.
Among all the men portrayed on Sex and the City, Smith Jerrod could very well be the most admirable. His patience and generosity were remarkable towards the free-spirited Samantha, who fiercely resisted falling in love with the model-turned-celebrity.
Most touching moment: Isn’t it heartwarming to recall the time when Smith cut off his beautiful long hair, in support of Samantha who had to do the same during chemotherapy treatment?
Absof–kinglutely. (Curse you, Peloton!)
Favorite Moment: Can’t we all agree that the best moment was when Big unexpectedly took Carrie to Paris to confess his true feelings for her? (Even though the bed fart/whoopee cushion joke remains hilarious.)
Much like Miranda found herself unexpectedly falling for Steve, we too were taken aback by our affection for this couple – an emotion that mirrors the shocking separation between them in the first season of “And Just Like That…”. Let’s root for Steve!
Standout Moment: The most authentic representation of SATC‘s least fussy pair can be found in Miranda’s unexpected proposal and their intimate park wedding, truly embodying their essence and perfection.
Love can unexpectedly appear in your life, such as when an unsuspecting individual – perhaps a less-than-impressive divorce attorney at first glance – transforms into the ideal partner and the most wonderful parent for your children that one could ever hope for.
Most Memorable Moment: The charmingly disorganized yet flawlessly beautiful wedding ceremony. Since the start of the series, Charlotte had envisioned a fairytale wedding, yet it was the blissful union that turned out to be her fairytale.
What truly matters most in life is your loved ones – your family. There will be moments when you cherish them and others where you may not feel as fond, but in the long run, they are the individuals who welcome you back to your sanctuary. Sometimes, this family is the one that you’re given at birth. And other times, it’s the group you create throughout your journey.
Best scene: Initially, we considered selecting Carrie escorting Miranda at her mother’s funeral as our top moment. However, we deemed it fitting to opt for a scene with all four friends instead. Our preferred choice? When Miranda shows indifference towards her own wedding upon learning about Samantha’s breast cancer diagnosis, resulting in the group setting aside their celebration to support each other. This is what true friendship embodies: prioritizing others over oneself.
