Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt‘s daughter Zahara is changing her name.
According to court documents obtained by TopMob News, the 21-year-old has asked a Los Angeles court to legally remove her father’s last name from her name. She currently goes by Zahara Marley Jolie-Pitt and wants to be known simply as Zahara Marley Jolie.
TopMob News reached out to Pitt’s rep but has not received a comment.
Zahara signed the petition on April 28th, shortly before graduating from Spelman College in Atlanta with a degree in psychology.
During the graduation ceremony on May 17th, Zahara chose to be announced with only her mother’s last name when receiving her diploma.
She isn’t the only one in her family to change her name legally. Her younger sister, Shiloh, also requested a change to her last name when she turned 18 in May 2024.
The dancer was able to legally change her name the following August after she published a notice about it in a local newspaper, as required by the state.
Just recently, Zahara and Shiloh’s 24-year-old brother, Maddox, also filed a request to drop “Pitt” from his legal name. Although Maddox didn’t state why he wanted the change, he had been using Jolie’s last name professionally for some time—for example, he was credited as an assistant director on his mother’s upcoming 2025 film, Couture.
The recent filings by his and Zahara follow the 2016 split between Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, who share three older children: 22-year-old Pax, and 17-year-old twins Vivienne and Knox. The couple finalized their divorce in 2024 after a long and complicated legal process.

Angelina is tired but glad to have gotten through this stage of the process, according to her lawyer in a statement to NBC News.
Brad Pitt said he didn’t see finalizing his divorce as a particularly big deal.
“Just something coming to fruition,” he told GQ in 2025. “Legally.”

Angelina Jolie first fell in love with Cambodia while filming the movie Tomb Raider in 2001. Later, she traveled to the town of Battambang, hoping to adopt a child from a local orphanage.
She later told Vanity Fair that she didn’t feel a connection with any of her children until she saw Maddox, who was born on August 5, 2001, lying in a box hanging from the ceiling. She instantly felt a connection and said she cried with emotion.
She adopted her oldest son as a single parent. When she started dating Brad Pitt, he began the process of adopting him as well.
I’ve always been fascinated by my mom’s work, so when she directed First They Killed My Father back in 2017 – an incredible film based on the book by her friend, Loung Ung, about the horrific Cambodian genocide – I jumped at the chance to be involved. I signed on as an executive producer, wanting to help in any way I could. Honestly, working with her is a dream. She’s so much fun, really funny, and just incredibly easy to collaborate with. She truly is amazing.
As someone who keeps a close eye on interesting people and events, I was fascinated to learn more about Maddox! After earning his biochemistry degree from Yonsei University in South Korea – his mom was absolutely thrilled, by the way – he had a truly remarkable experience. In April 2023, he was a guest at a state dinner hosted by President Joe Biden and Dr. Jill Biden for South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol and First Lady Kim Keon Hee. It’s always inspiring to see individuals connect across cultures at such a high level!

Angelina Jolie described Pax’s early life in Vietnam as difficult. Born on November 29, 2003, he spent the first three and a half years of his life in an orphanage near Ho Chi Minh City, sharing a small iron bed with around 20 other children and having no control over his own life or freedom, she told MSN in 2007.
Maddox is adjusting well to life with his sisters, Zahara and Shiloh, and his new family. Angelina explained that he’s quickly embracing his newfound freedom and learning English. She described him as a loving, energetic, and resilient little boy, enjoying the chance to be himself.
Pax had an early involvement in the film industry, fueled by a family connection. He voiced a character in Angelina Jolie’s 2016 animated movie, Kung Fu Panda 3, and worked as a set photographer on First They Killed My Father. In 2018, he accompanied his mother to the Golden Globes.
He assisted with the design of Atelier Jolie, a fashion and tailoring space Angelina Jolie launched in New York City, and also worked as an assistant director on the set of her movie, Without Blood, which was filmed in Italy.
Angelina explained to People that working with her sons, Pax and Maddox, felt natural because a good film set often feels like a family.

When Angelina visited an orphanage in Hawassa, Ethiopia, she brought her then-3-year-old son, Maddox, and they met her older daughter, Zahara, who was born on January 8, 2005. Angelina later told Anderson Cooper that Maddox quickly bonded with Zahara. Because Zahara was seven months old when she joined the family, Maddox saw her like a little ‘pet’ he could cuddle and care for.
Zahara, like her brothers and sisters, is fascinated by her mother’s work. She’s participated in events like red carpets, helped launch her own jewelry line, the Zahara Collection, with designer Robert Procop in 2019, and even joined her mother on trips to support Syrian refugees through the UNHCR.
In August 2022, Angelina Jolie became emotional as she dropped her daughter Zahara off at Spelman College in Atlanta. She shared a video on Instagram saying she was trying not to cry. She later returned to Spelman for the homecoming celebration.
Zahara became a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority at her school in 2023. She’s also traveled with the actress to Washington, D.C. several times, including when the actress gave an emotional speech in February 2022 urging the renewal of the Violence Against Women Act. A year later, Zahara was with her again as they spoke with legislators to support the Justice for All Reauthorization Act of 2022.

Angelina and Brad welcomed their daughter, Shiloh, into the world on May 27, 2006, at a hospital in Swakopmund, Namibia. In an interview with MSN, Angelina described Shiloh as being full of joy and humor, calling her a “little honey” and playfully predicting she would be a bit mischievous, recognizing a bit of her own personality in the baby.
Shiloh first stepped onto the red carpet at the premiere of Unbroken in 2014. Since then, she’s joined her family at events for films like Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, The Breadwinner, and Dumbo. She also attended the 2018 National Board of Review Awards Gala and the 2021 premiere of Eternals, where she famously wore a gown previously worn by her mother.
Angelina Jolie loves when her kids borrow clothes from her closet. She told TopMob’s Daily Pop that she encourages them to wear her things, even telling them to ‘wear it better than me!’ She happily lets them have anything they want, embracing the role of a mom who shares everything.
I’ve been following Shiloh for a while now, and it’s so great to see her supporting causes she cares about, just like her mom, Angelina. But beyond that, I’ve also noticed she’s been pursuing her own interests – I heard she’s been spending time at the Millennium Dance Complex in L.A., which is really exciting! It seems like she’s exploring a potential path in the entertainment world, and I’m really rooting for her.
In 2024, on her 18th birthday, Shiloh Jolie filed a legal request in Los Angeles to drop the ‘Pitt’ from her last name, officially becoming Shiloh Nouvel Jolie a few months later.

Angelina first showed off her pregnancy at the 2008 Independent Spirit Awards. She then welcomed twins, Knox and Vivienne, in Nice, France, on July 12, 2008. After settling into their home, Château Miraval, she told People magazine that life was chaotic but wonderful. Shiloh and Zahara enjoyed helping with the twins, picking out their outfits and assisting with changing and holding them.
Angelina explained that her son, Brad, was named after his grandfather, Hal Knox Hillhouse, and shared that Brad and his grandfather shared many similarities in both personality and appearance. Photos from the 2015 British motorcycle Grand Prix clearly show how much the two resembled each other.
Following in the footsteps of her older children, Pax, Zahara, and Shiloh, Knox voiced a small character named Ku Ku in the 2016 film Kung Fu Panda 3. According to Jolie, the kids were hesitant about acting, but she didn’t want them to miss out on the experience. She shared with ET that they ended up enjoying themselves.

Okay, so I was reading this interview with Angelina, and she was talking about Knox’s twin sister, and honestly, it just melted my heart! She said her sister totally reminds her of their mom, Marcheline Bertrand – not someone who needs the spotlight, but someone who just wants to help other artists shine. Angelina said she’s incredibly thoughtful and takes theatre so seriously, really putting in the work to figure out how she can contribute the most. It’s just… it’s like a little piece of Marcheline is still there, and it makes me adore them both even more!
Despite a strong performance as a young Elle Fanning’s character, Aurora, in the 2014 film Maleficent – Angelina Jolie was impressed by her ability to stay on cue – the actress has since focused on work behind the camera.
Angelina shared that her daughter, Vivienne, inspired her to work on bringing the movie The Outsiders to Broadway. Vivienne then volunteered to help her mom, who was producing the Tony-winning show.
Angelina said her daughter, Vivienne, keeps her on track. ‘She’ll point out if I’ve missed something, like a memo, and remind me what we need to do,’ Jolie explained to People. ‘She’s a really dedicated assistant and takes her job very seriously.’
