Okay, fellow Animal Crossing players, you’re not gonna believe this! Nintendo just dropped some huge news. They’re adding new content to Animal Crossing: New Horizons – seriously, almost four years after they stopped updating it! But that’s not even the best part. It’s also coming to the new Nintendo Switch 2 on January 15th, 2026, and it’ll cost $64.99. If you already have the original game, you can upgrade to the Switch 2 version for only $4.99! I’m so excited to start a new island!
Switch 2 offers a sharper picture in TV mode with 4K resolution at 30 frames per second. You can also use a mouse for easier writing and design creation, and a microphone to chat with your villagers. Plus, up to 12 players can team up or video chat while playing together.
The free update adds the Resort Hotel to the game, letting you decorate guest rooms with new furniture and clothing. Players with a Nintendo Switch Online membership can now back up three islands to share with friends. We’ve also increased storage capacity to 9,000 items – now including trees, shrubs, and flowers – and introduced a Reset Service for a fresh start.
On top of everything else, Nintendo Switch Online members can also enjoy retro games. Plus, you can collect LEGO items and use amiibo figures from The Legend of Zelda and Splatoon to unlock special characters and items related to them.
