Gaurav Gandhi, a vice president at Amazon Prime Video, recently recognized the huge popularity of anime and announced that Prime Video aims to be the leading platform for anime fans worldwide. This announcement, made in February 2026, firmly established Prime Video as one of the top three major anime streaming services.

Recently, the platform gained the rights to distribute the revived Fist of the North Star series (from TMS Entertainment) and the new Ghost in the Shell series (by Science Saru and Production I.G) worldwide. It also continues to offer popular exclusives like Tatsuki Fujimoto 17–26, Dororo, the Evangelion rebuild films, and Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX. Jennifer Salke, who leads Amazon MGM Studios, stated that the platform is planning to significantly expand its content offerings over the next few years, moving beyond typical short-term licensing deals.

Amazon Prime Video is very popular in Japan, which helps them build strong relationships with animation studios. Because of this, they’re focusing on offering more anime content specifically for viewers in Asia-Pacific, Europe, and Latin America – regions where other Western streaming services don’t have as strong a presence as they do in the US.
