The scream queens are back.
In the anticipated reboot of “Scary Movie,” Regina Hall and Anna Faris are set to once again step into their cherished roles as Brenda and Cindy, characters they originally played in the first four installments of the horror-comedy series.
The stars excitedly expressed their anticipation in a joint statement to Deadline on August 15, stating, “We can hardly wait to revive Brenda and Cindy and reconnect with our dear friends Keenen, Shawn, and Marlon.” They added, “These three individuals are so valuable to us that we would gladly go to great lengths (and in Brenda’s case, even face death again) for them.
TopMob News has reached out to Regina and Anna for comment, but has yet to hear back.
In several Scary Movie films, Regina’s character has been killed but mysteriously resurrected later without any explanation. This pattern continues as Regina returns for the sixth film, staying consistent with past installments. Conversely, Anna’s character Cindy hasn’t met her demise in any of the previous Scary Movie films.
Before the official announcement from the actresses about their reunion for the film series, creator and writer Marlon Wayans hinted at the news by sharing a photograph of Regina and Anna on the set of one of the early films on Instagram, August 15. He accompanied the image with just an eyes emoji and the abbreviation “SM6,” which is assumed to be a reference to the sixth movie in the series.
In a remarkable reunion after eighteen years, Marlon, along with his siblings Shawn Wayans and Keenen Ivory Wayans, are coming together once more for the sixth installment of the “Scary Movie” series. According to Variety’s reports, this long-awaited film is scheduled for release on June 12, 2026. The trio initially created and penned the franchise, with Keenen not only writing but also directing, while Shawn and Marlon starred in the initial films as well.
They expressed immense joy about joining the latest “Scary Movie” project and collaborating once more, sharing this sentiment with Deadline in an October statement. This series we initiated over 20 years ago holds a special place for us. We recall audiences filling theaters with laughter, and we eagerly anticipate witnessing that joyous atmosphere return. We are thrilled to team up with Jonathan Glickman and his Miramax crew to bring those chuckles back to cinemas, their original home. It’s a delightful experience having this double reunion.
