Anna Wintour is asking Anne Hathaway to bore someone else with her questions.
I was absolutely thrilled to see Anne Hathaway on stage at the Oscars! She was there with the legendary editor from Vogue – the woman who everyone says was the inspiration for Miranda Priestly in The Devil Wears Prada. They presented the awards for Best Costume Design and Best Makeup and Hairstyling, and it was such a fun moment, especially with the sequel coming out in May!
At the March 15th ceremony, Anne explained that a character’s costume – whether it’s vibrant hats, an elaborate headdress, simple glasses, or designs inspired by historical periods and stories – is crucial for effective storytelling. She playfully pretended to be nervous while speaking to Anna. (You can find details about all the stars at the 2026 Oscars here.)
The Oscar winner went on to quip about her own outfit in front of the infamous fashion icon.
Anne added that what someone wears in real life is also crucial. She explained that it’s about making a good impression – looking elegant and attractive, especially on a big night like the Oscars when fashion experts are closely watching.
Anna turned away from Anne and slipped on her sunglasses. Anne, trying to be brave, then asked, “So, Anna, what do you think of my dress?”
To which Anna hilariously ignored, adding, “And the nominees are.”
After declaring Frankenstein the victor, Anna gave a nod to the movie, and also to the nickname Miranda uses for her team members in the film, saying to Anne, “Thank you, Emily.” (Find a complete list of the 2026 Oscar winners here.)

Anna made an unexpected appearance at the 2026 Oscars, two years after publicly discussing whether she was the basis for the villain in The Devil Wears Prada.
In a 2024 interview with the BBC, Anna stated that it’s up to viewers and her colleagues to judge if she shares any traits with the character Miranda Priestly.
And as for her signature style that the film subtly borrows from?
Anna said she doesn’t spend much time thinking about that. She’s much more focused on the creative parts of her work.
