
Anne Hathaway first portrayed Catwoman (Selina Kyle) in a Christopher Nolan film back in 2012. Now, after 14 years, she’s revealing the single, important instruction Nolan gave her about playing the famous comic book character.
In a recent interview with People, Anne Hathaway was asked about the focus on her body and the catsuit she wore for The Dark Knight Rises during the movie’s promotion. She explained that it only bothered her when people asked about how much weight she lost to fit into the costume.
I was sensitive about the focus on weight loss because Christopher Nolan had made it clear he wasn’t concerned with that at all. He told me his priority was for me to be physically capable of performing all my own stunts. So, I was frustrated that people immediately asked about how much weight I lost, instead of how much training and strength it took to prepare for the role.
Hathaway explained that she spent a lot of time practicing on a high platform to perfect the backward flip she does through the window when her character, Selina Kyle, is first introduced in The Dark Knight Rises. This happens immediately after she steals Bruce Wayne’s pearls.
