Fans of classic SEGA Genesis sports games will be excited to hear that Mutant Football League 2 is launching on PlayStation 5 on December 10th, continuing the over-the-top, arcade-style football action.
The original Mutant Football League, which came out on PlayStation 4 in 2017, was made by Michael Mendheim. He previously worked on the classic 16-bit games, Mutant League Football and Mutant League Hockey.
This new football game is being touted as the opposite of the realistic ‘Madden’ series. It’s designed to be a fast-paced, over-the-top, and darkly funny arcade-style experience with eight players on each team.
The twist is that referees here don’t just “blow calls – they get blown up”.

You’ll be able to dominate your rivals during the game, and if you’ve successfully influenced the referees, you can avoid consequences for aggressive plays.
The complete game will include 32 unique professional teams and 4 additional minor league teams. Players can also build their own team by drafting players and creating a brand new franchise.
You’ll also be able to dive into a deep Franchise mode where you can scout and develop new players over several seasons, creating a powerful team that can rule the Mutant Football League for years.
Here’s what the blurb says:
Mutant Football League 2 lets you build and customize your ultimate football team of rough and tumble players. Success depends on creating the right strategy – will you overpower opponents with brute force, or outsmart them with clever plays? It’s up to you to prove your skills and become a legend in the MFL! Guide your team of mutants from rookies to champions, dominating the competition with both flair and aggression in the single-player Season, the deep Dynasty Supreme franchise mode, and thrilling online multiplayer matches.
Featuring the iconic commentary of NBA Jam’s Tim Kitzrow and improved gameplay, this game is definitely one to watch for arcade sports enthusiasts.
