Apple TV is developing another prequel series set in the Monsterverse. This follows the success of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, which premiered in 2023, and its second season will arrive on February 27th.
Apple TV+ is creating a new series that will delve into the early life of Colonel Lee Shaw, the character played by Wyatt Russell. This prequel will show Shaw as a young man, while his father, Kurt Russell, continues to portray the older version of the character in the first season of Legacy of Monsters.
The upcoming prequel tells the story of a young Shaw, working as an American agent in 1984. He’s tasked with preventing the Soviets from unleashing a powerful weapon – a ‘Titan’ – that could destroy the United States and dramatically alter the course of the Cold War.
Joby Harold is heading up the new, as-yet-unnamed prequel series. His production company, Safehouse Pictures, will produce it as part of a broader agreement with Legendary to create more Monsterverse content for Apple TV+, featuring both new and returning Titans. Here’s what Harold had to say about it:
I’m incredibly honored to help expand this amazing and well-known universe. Apple and Legendary have been fantastic collaborators, and we’re committed to continuing to share these cinematic legends with audiences, treating their legacy with the respect it deserves.
