Apple TV+ has decided not to renew “Mythic Quest,” their popular gaming office comedy series, just weeks after the fourth season concluded. As reported by Variety, the streaming platform will not be continuing with a fifth season, disappointing many fans. However, the creators of the show have an opportunity to give the series a fitting end by modifying the finale of Season 4 to serve as the final episode instead. This adjustment is expected to be revealed next week, according to executive producers Megan Ganz, David Hornsby, and Rob McElhenney who made this announcement with gratitude to the fans, cast, and crew of the series.
As a devoted fan, I must share my feelings about the bittersweet news: “Conclusions can be tough, but after an extraordinary four-season journey, it’s time for ‘Mythic Quest’ to draw to a close.” We’re incredibly proud of the show and the universe we had the privilege to create, and we owe a heartfelt thank you to each cast and crew member who invested their passion into it. To our fans, thank you for joining us on this adventure. To our partners at Apple, thank you for your faith in our vision from day one. Since endings can be tough, with Apple’s support, we made a final update to the last episode – not just ending with ‘game over’, but allowing us a chance to bid farewell instead.
One of the streamer’s early triumphs, Mythic Quest, made its debut just a few months following the service launch in February 2020. Over the past couple of years, sitcom enthusiasts have grown familiar with this series. As evidenced on Rotten Tomatoes, the show has been well-received, maintaining an impressive average approval rating of 97%.
McElhenney, Ganz, and co-creator Charlie Day of Always Sunny teamed up with producers from 3 Arts (Hornsby, Michael Rotenberg, and Nicholas Frenkel), Ubisoft Film and Television (Margaret Boykin, Austin Dill, and Gerard Guillemot) to form a group.
The show “Mythic Quest” delved into the lives of a video game development studio’s staff, centered around their hit massively multiplayer online role-playing game. In this series, Rob McElhenney portrayed the role of the game’s creator and creative director. His team included Poppy Li (portrayed by Charlotte Nicdao), David Brittlesbee (David Hornsby), and Brad Bakshi, who was played by Danny Pudi from “Community”.
Beyond the primary storyline, “Mythic Quest” also created two special episodes. One centered around the characters navigating quarantine, while another depicted their eagerness to return to the office. A spin-off series titled “Side-Quest” debuted on March 26th, offering a four-episode exploration of various individuals who play the game and develop updates for it.
The revised finale of “Mythic Quest” is scheduled to debut on Apple TV+ starting from the week commencing April 13. If you’ve missed its initial release, you can catch up with all seasons and their specials by streaming them on Apple TV+.
