Most movies have a short run on streaming services before disappearing from the top charts, but one film on Apple TV has remained popular for nearly a year. Apple TV is unique because it focuses on creating its own original movies and shows, rather than licensing content from other studios like many other streaming platforms.
As a movie buff, I’ve been really impressed with how Apple TV+ has grown. Sure, they’ve had a few misses, but overall, the quality of their films and shows is consistently high. And right now, there’s one movie everyone’s talking about – The Gorge – it’s been in their Top 10 for almost a year now, which is pretty incredible!
The Gorge Is Still Trending On Apple TV After Releasing In February 2025
Apple TV+ premiered the sci-fi horror-action film The Gorge on February 14, 2025. Written by Zach Dean and directed by Scott Derrickson, the movie centers around Levi (Miles Teller) and Drasa (Anya Taylor-Joy), two highly skilled snipers tasked with silently guarding opposite sides of a secret gorge for an entire year without communicating with each other.
The gorge is home to terrifying creatures known as “The Hollow Men.” Eventually, Levi and Drasa defy regulations and connect, developing a close relationship. While secretly navigating their feelings, they uncover a troubling truth about the gorge.
I’m seriously impressed with how well The Gorge has done on Apple TV! It shot right to the top spot, and unlike most movies that quickly fade away, it’s still hanging in there. As of today, it’s currently number three on the Top 10 list, and I’m really curious to see if it can stay there for a while longer.
The Gorge’s Reviews Were Mixed, But It’s Still Worth Watching
Despite being popular with viewers on Apple TV for nearly a year, The Gorge didn’t receive much praise from critics. Currently, it has a 62% critics’ score and a 74% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. Reviewers generally enjoyed the romantic elements of the film, but felt the action-thriller aspects were predictable and overshadowed the story.
Viewers have had mixed reactions to The Gorge, particularly its story – some appreciate its fresh approach, while others feel it borrows too heavily from other sci-fi action films. Despite this, the movie is still worth seeing for the strong performances of Anya Taylor-Joy and Miles Teller, as well as their captivating chemistry, the film’s unique concept, and its impressive visuals and music by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross.
Despite not being a critical success, The Gorge has become popular with general audiences who appreciate its interesting concept and romantic storyline. While many agree with critics that the movie’s mix of genres isn’t perfect, its lasting popularity – it’s been trending for nearly a year – suggests it’s definitely worth a watch.
