Apple TV+ has quickly become a top choice for science fiction fans. Since launching in 2019, it’s consistently released excellent, original sci-fi shows and movies, including hits like Severance and the upcoming Pluribus. This strong lineup has cemented Apple TV+’s position as a leading platform for the genre in recent years. One of its earliest sci-fi series continues to be a standout, and its latest season is already receiving rave reviews.
The critically acclaimed sci-fi series For All Mankind is back with its fifth season! New episodes premiered on Apple TV on March 27th and will be released weekly every Friday until May 29th. Created by Ronald D. Moore, Matt Wolpert, and Ben Nedivi, the show imagines an alternate history where the Soviet Union landed on the moon before the United States, leading to a continuing and intense space race that dramatically accelerates progress in technology, society, and politics.
For All Mankind Season 5 Reinforces Its Sci-Fi Dominance on Apple TV
The Apple TV+ series For All Mankind continues to be critically acclaimed with its fifth season. It debuted with a 92% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, consistent with the show’s overall average, and quickly returned to Apple TV’s top 10 most-watched shows. According to Ben Gibbons of ScreenRant, the new season is “another wonderful addition to what is quickly becoming one of the best sci-fi series in recent years.” Season 5 is set in 2012 and explores the consequences of the Goldilocks asteroid theft and the development of the Mars colony.
Germain Lussier, writing for io9.com, said that Season 5 successfully recaptures what makes the show great. It continues the thrilling, high-stakes story of the fight for Martian independence while expanding the scope of the series into deeper space. The season expertly blends intense personal stories with impressive sci-fi action. According to Tessa Smith of Mama’s Geeky, this season is about rebellion, facing the results of one’s actions, and the determined optimism of young people. The story is now shifting focus to a new generation, with Ed Baldwin’s grandson emerging as a central leader among the next wave of space explorers.
Will There Be a For All Mankind Season 6?
Great news for fans of For All Mankind! Apple TV+ has renewed the show for a sixth and final season. But the story won’t end completely. A new spinoff series, Star City, will explore the Soviet space program of the 1970s. It’s set to premiere on May 29th, the same day Season 5 of For All Mankind finishes. The first season of Star City will have eight episodes, concluding on July 10th.
