Grant Morrison’s *Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on Serious Earth* is a highly regarded Batman story that delves into the depths of madness. Batman investigates the infamous Arkham Asylum after it falls under the control of his most dangerous enemies. During his investigation, he discovers the disturbing history of the asylum and the family who founded it, confronting both psychological and potentially supernatural horrors. More than a typical superhero comic, this story is a chilling psychological thriller that brilliantly explores the fractured minds of Batman’s villains. Since its release in 1989, fans have eagerly hoped for a continuation of this dark and captivating world.
In 2017, Grant Morrison revealed plans for a sequel, acknowledging it might be a risky move to continue the story as a series. They hoped to create something truly special, but despite initial progress on a graphic novel, the project stalled. Fans had almost given up on seeing a continuation, until Morrison recently hinted that it might still happen.
A Serious Update on a Serious Story
On October 15, 2025, comic book writer Grant Morrison held a question-and-answer session on the r/DCcomics subreddit on Reddit. They were promoting their upcoming comic, *Batman/Deadpool*, which will be released on November 19th. Someone asked about a planned but never-made sequel to the *Arkham* series, and Morrison responded that they weren’t sharing any details because they might still write it someday. While it doesn’t mean the story is currently in development, it does confirm that Morrison still considers it a possibility for the future.
I’m really excited about this new graphic novel! It’s going to center around Damian Wayne, Bruce Wayne’s son, all grown up and taking on the mantle of Batman. It’s not the first time we’ve seen this possibility – Grant Morrison actually hinted at it years ago in *Batman* #666, showing a future where Damian became Batman but at a terrible cost. He literally sold his soul for immortality to protect Gotham and prevent a global catastrophe! That darker, more psychological direction feels *perfect* for the *Arkham* universe, and honestly, fans like me have been hoping for a story like this for ages. It’s going to be intense!
We’re still not sure when or if it will happen, but Grant Morrison is at least considering a project like this, and that’s encouraging after years of nothing. The fact that DC allowed a crossover like *Batman/Deadpool* – something many thought impossible – shows they’re becoming more open to creative and unusual ideas. It’s especially noteworthy that Morrison is behind it, as they’ve always been a writer known for pushing boundaries. This crossover could pave the way for even more bold and unexpected projects down the line.
