Polyarc, the studio known for creating highly-rated adventure games for PlayStation VR and PlayStation VR2, has announced it was forced to lay off a large number of employees after a funding attempt failed following the cancellation of one of its projects.
The studio gained recognition for its virtual reality games, Moss and Moss: Book II. These games are considered among the very best VR experiences on Sony’s PlayStation VR and PSVR2, comparable to the popular Astro Bot Rescue Mission.
The virtual reality (VR) industry is facing challenges. Polyarc, a VR development company, has announced it’s downsizing significantly after losing funding when a key project was cancelled. The company hasn’t revealed how many jobs will be affected.
The developer team expressed gratitude to everyone who contributed to their projects. In a LinkedIn post, they acknowledged the hard work, innovation, and dedication of their team members, stating they couldn’t have achieved their success without them. They also emphasized that the contributions of these individuals will continue to influence their company and future games.
The recent layoffs are just the newest sign of trouble for virtual reality development and the gaming industry. Specifically with PlayStation VR2, Sony hasn’t provided ongoing support, leaving it up to other companies to create games for the platform.
