Despite Clint Hocking leaving his role as creative director, Ubisoft seems very enthusiastic about Assassin’s Creed Codename Hexe. This is likely due to the game being developed by Vantage Studios, which provides a more stable development environment. According to insider Tom Henderson, the game’s high quality is also attracting more developers to the project.
He also revealed some surprising details on the Insider Gaming Podcast. While the game supposedly centers around the magical abilities of a new character, Elsa, that’s not the whole story. It seems they originally planned for Ezio Auditore from Assassin’s Creed 2 to appear around the middle of the game and mentor her in the ways of the Assassins.
It’s unclear if this will still be true, but Ubisoft appears to have revamped the combat system for the game. According to Henderson, they even brought in contortionists to create the motion capture, meaning players can expect a lot more acrobatic moves during combat.
So, it’s looking like Assassin’s Creed Codename Hexe is probably coming out around the holidays in 2027. That makes sense, because most Assassin’s Creed games drop in November – Shadows was supposed to too, but it got pushed back. If that timeline is right, we might hear something official about Hexe either this year or early 2027. It also fits with what I’ve heard about them wrapping up support for Shadows around the end of this year.
Beyond confirming it won’t be a role-playing game, Ubisoft hasn’t revealed much about Codename Hexe. While rumors suggest it will be a story-driven game with some open-world aspects and a particularly dark tone, we’ll need to wait for official details.
