Assassin’s Creed Netflix Series Gets New Showrunners, Executive Producers

It appears that the long-delayed Netflix adaptation of Assassin’s Creed, which has been stalled in development for some time, is now making progress. As per a report by Variety, the series will be guided by Robert Patino and David Wiener, who will jointly assume the roles of showrunners, creators, and executive producers.

I’ve been an ardent fan of the Assassin’s Creed video game series since its inception, and now, as a fellow enthusiast, I couldn’t be more thrilled about the Netflix project. Wiener and Patino have shared that they’ve garnered backing from Ubisoft and Netflix, not to mention an exceptional team, to bring a serialized version of Assassin’s Creed to life.

For years, Wiener and Patino have been avid admirers of ‘Assassin’s Creed’, ever since its debut in 2007. They consistently express a sense of exhilaration and awe as they delve into the show’s production, appreciating the limitless storytelling opportunities that the game provides. Beneath its vast setting, action-packed scenes, and thrilling parkour lies the foundation for profound human narratives – stories about individuals seeking meaning, grappling with issues of identity, destiny, and faith. It delves into themes like power, violence, love, greed, vengeance. However, above all, this show highlights the importance of human relationships, transcending cultural and temporal boundaries.

We’re talking about the potential loss our species could face when connections are severed. We have an extraordinary team working with us from Ubisoft and champions at Netflix, and we’re dedicated to producing something unforgettable for fans worldwide.

Matt O’Toole, together with Austin Dill, Margaret Boykin, and Gerard Guillemot from Ubisoft Film & Television, are set to collaborate as executive producers alongside Wiener and Patino on the upcoming project.

Boykin is thrilled to collaborate with Roberto, David, and our Netflix associates in transforming this cherished series into a TV show,” said he. “We can’t wait to create an immersive journey that encapsulates the essence of what fans adore about Assassin’s Creed, while unveiling its captivating realms and enduring themes to global viewers who haven’t yet experienced it.

In a comment, Peter Friedlander, Vice President of Scripted Series at Netflix, discussed the collaboration between Netflix and Ubisoft that began in 2020. He also expressed his desire to pay tribute to the legacy of the Assassin’s Creed series.

Initially, when we unveiled our partnership with Ubisoft back in 2020, we aimed high, intending to create a vibrant, expansive representation of the Assassin’s Creed universe in unique and exciting ways. Fast forward to now, after years of meticulous teamwork, it’s truly inspiring to witness how our vision has evolved. Led by Roberto Patino and David Wiener, the team has skillfully designed an epic journey that not only preserves the prestige of the Assassin’s Creed series but also offers a never-before-seen thrill for both seasoned fans and newcomers, inviting them into the Brotherhood like never before.

Recently, there hasn’t been any news regarding the Assassin’s Creed Netflix series since Jeb Stuart stepped down as the writer and showrunner in January 2023. Since then, it seems like the project has gone silent.
