In its most recent shareholders gathering, Ubisoft has been open about a range of topics, including the fact that a new installment in the Ghost Recon series is being developed, as well as discussing the setbacks encountered with Star Wars Outlaws. Furthermore, they disclosed, to some extent, the development costs for Assassin’s Creed Shadows.
Yves Guillemot, CEO, and Frederick Duguet, CFO, revealed through Game File that the project’s budget surpassed €100 million, which is approximately $116 million. It’s clear, though, that the expenses, excluding marketing, are significantly greater. The initiative was announced in September 2022 and is primarily led by Ubisoft Quebec, with assistance from no less than 14 other Ubisoft studios.
As a dedicated fan, I can confidently say that my personal favorite, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, has undeniably proven its worth for the publisher. In the United States alone, it ranks third in terms of year-to-date sales as of May 2025, according to Circana. On top of that, Ubisoft announced over three million players shortly after its launch, and it set a new record for the second-highest day-one sales in the series, surpassing the previous record holder, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey.
The game titled “Assassin’s Creed Shadows” can be played on Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC platforms. Expected updates such as New Game Plus and its first expansion, named “Claws of Awaji,” are scheduled to arrive this year at no additional cost. It is also rumored that a cooperative mode will debut next year.
