Aubrey Plaza, Christopher Abbott Make Red Carpet Debut at Tony Awards

The 2026 Tony Awards doubled as a parents’ night out.

Aubrey Plaza and Christopher Abbott, who are expecting a baby, attended the award show’s red carpet event as a couple for a romantic night out.

Abbott looked sharp in a black suit with contrasting trim and a skinny black tie. Plaza complemented him in a sleeveless black dress with white stripes, and proudly showed off her pregnancy. (You can see photos of all the outfits here.)

But the outing wasn’t just an excuse for an adorable expecting parents photo op.

For his performance as Biff Loman in Arthur Miller’s Death of a Salesman, Abbott received a Tony Award nomination alongside Danny Burstein (Marjorie Prime), Brandon J. Dirden (Waiting for Godot), Ruben Santiago-Hudson (August Wilson’s Joe Turner’s Come and Gone), and Richard Thomas (The Balusters). Ultimately, Alden Ehrenreich won the Tony for his work in Becky Shaw.

Although Plaza has been seen in public since announcing her pregnancy with Abbott, the award show on June 7th marked the first time the couple appeared together on a red carpet.

I’ve been following Elizabeth and Brendan for a while now, and it’s so exciting to hear they’re expecting! They actually first met while filming Black Bear back in 2019, but it wasn’t until much later that things became romantic. They’ve been really private about the baby, keeping things fun and lighthearted, which I totally respect.

When Jenna Bush Hager congratulated Abbott on his pregnancy with Plaza during a May appearance on Today, he playfully pointed out that he’s experiencing other big life events at the moment as well.

“I thought—for my Tony nom,” he quipped. “I’m kidding, I know. There’s too much going on.”

The man, who was forty years old, replied sincerely, “That’s kind of you, thank you. I’m really excited.”

Plaza has been playfully comparing her pregnancy to her dog’s experiences, finding humor in the similarities.

I had a busy day with doctor’s appointments, both for myself and my dog,” said the former Parks & Recreation star on the April 13th episode of the Smartless podcast. “My dog is currently getting a scan, and I had one earlier. Seriously, she needed an ultrasound on her stomach.

She added, “And then I got an ultrasound on my stomach, and there is a baby in there.”

I’m so excited for her as she prepares to become a mom! She’s 41 and really embracing this new chapter, and I know she’ll approach motherhood with the same grace and enthusiasm she brings to everything else. It’s going to be amazing to watch her navigate this whole new world.

Plaza shared that she’s long been curious about motherhood, describing it as a fascinating experience.
