Aubrey Plaza Speaks Out About Pregnancy After Debuting Baby Bump

Aubrey Plaza‘s latest chapter has been a treat.

Following confirmation that Aubrey Plaza is pregnant with her first child with Christopher Abbott, the actress has spoken about her experience so far.

She revealed on the April 20th episode of the SmartLess podcast that she is pregnant. According to a preview shared by Page Six on April 13th, she said, ‘Today was a big day. I went to the doctor’s today,’ to announce the news.

In fact, it was an, er, ruff day for the whole family.

I took my dog to the vet, just like I had to go to the doctor myself,” the 41-year-old explained to Will Arnett, Jason Bateman, and Sean Hayes. “We both needed scans – my dog is getting one now, and I had mine earlier. It’s true! They had to do an ultrasound of her stomach.”

She added, “And then I got an ultrasound on my stomach, and there is a baby in there.”

As for how she feels about becoming a mom?

Aubrey, who revealed she was expecting a baby on April 8th while walking her dog in New York City, said she’s long been curious about the experience. ‘It just seems so interesting,’ she added, referring to pregnancy and motherhood.

Aubrey is expecting a baby over a year after the death of her husband, Jeff Baena, who passed away in January 2025.

After her husband Jeff died by suicide, the actress shared details about her experience with grief. They had been together for ten years before marrying in 2021.

Speaking with her friend Amy Poehler in August, she shared that she was feeling happy to be present in the moment. While acknowledging it’s a daily challenge, she expressed gratitude for being able to navigate life and felt, overall, that she was doing okay.

Aubrey even compared the experience to the sci-fi horror film The Gorge.

She described a scene from a movie featuring cliffs on either side of a deep gorge filled with monsters. On her Good Hang podcast, she explained that watching it felt incredibly relatable to her experience with grief, saying, ‘That’s what this feels like—or what grief could be like.’

She described a constant sense of overwhelming negativity, like a dark ocean always within view. Sometimes she feels drawn to it, wanting to immerse herself in those feelings. Other times, she simply observes it, or tries to escape it. But no matter what, it’s always present, a persistent undercurrent in her life.
