Austin Powers cast reprise iconic roles – 24 years after final film

Just as fans were excited about the new trailer for Shrek 5 – featuring Mike Myers returning as the beloved ogre – it’s been revealed that Myers is also bringing back another famous character he’s known for.

Mike Myers is back as Dr. Evil in a new commercial for Verizon, reuniting with some of his fellow actors from the Austin Powers movies.

Seth Green is back as Scott Evil, and Rob Lowe now plays Number 2, a role previously held by Robert Wagner, who himself played the character as a younger man.

Mindy Sterling returns as Frau Farbissina, rounding out the cast for the new commercial. The commercial is directed by Jay Roach, who also directed the original films, as well as more recent movies like ‘The Roses’ and ‘Bombshell’.

In the new ad, Dr. Evil is back with another evil plan: launching a mobile company called Menace Mobile, designed to have the most frustrating and complicated plans and prices imaginable.

Just then, his whole team revealed they’d already changed to Verizon’s new Simplicity Plan. Furious, Dr. Evil pressed a button intending to eliminate them all.

Okay, so I just watched the Austin Powers movies again, and they’re still hilarious! Basically, it’s a really clever spoof of the classic James Bond films, and what’s amazing is that Mike Myers doesn’t just play Austin Powers – he plays multiple characters, including Dr. Evil! It’s a testament to his comedic talent.

The films also starred a variety of well-known actors, including Michael York, Elizabeth Hurley, Will Ferrell, Heather Graham, Verne Troyer, Beyoncé, and Michael Caine.

The original Austin Powers movie, International Man of Mystery, came out in 1997, and its follow-up, The Spy Who Shagged Me, was released two years later in 1999.

A third and so far final film, Austin Powers in Goldmember, was released 24 years ago, in 2002.

Both Mike Myers and Jay Roach have expressed interest in making another Austin Powers movie. Myers said as recently as 2022 that he’d be thrilled to return, and Roach mentioned in 2020 that he’d be open to directing a sequel.

Wayne Myers shared with Variety that he always enjoys playing Dr. Evil, and he especially had fun working with the talented cast in the Verizon ad.

Verizon launched their Simplicity Plan with a smart strategy. Interestingly, even Dr. Evil’s team seems to agree that getting rid of complicated phone plans is a good idea.
