Australia reaches a significant achievement with over 1,000 operational Bitcoin and crypto automatic teller machines (ATMs), making it the third-largest global hub for such transactions.
Starting from April 24, Australia has operated 1,002 functional Bitcoin ATMs, ranking it as the third nation with the most Bitcoin ATMs after the United States and Canada. This equates to a 2.7% share of the entire global Bitcoin ATM network.
Based on information from Coin ATM Radar, the US reached a milestone of 1,000 cryptocurrency automated teller machines in November 2017. In contrast, Canada achieved the same number by January 2021.
At present, approximately 82.8% of the world’s Bitcoin Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) are located in the United States, totaling 31,170 units. Canada holds around 7.8% of the global count with 2,918 crypto ATMs.
Previously, Australia had very few crypto ATMs in use due to historical low demand. But since late 2022, there’s been a massive surge in adoption, primarily driven by involvement from private companies.
By April 2023, the number of Bitcoin ATMs in Australia had exceeded that of Asia, comprising large economic powers like China, Japan, Singapore, and India.
With its ongoing installation pace, Australia is set to exceed Europe’s current number of 1,617 (or 4.3%) Bitcoin ATMs in the network.
In other nations, the number of crypto ATMs is substantial in Spain (with 261 units), El Salvador (boasting 215), Poland (numbering 211), Germany (having 194), and Hong Kong (equipped with 157).
More recently, CryptoMoon announced that the same group of hackers who exposed El Salvador’s Bitcoin ATM records have made public a segment of the government-run “Chivo” Bitcoin wallet’s programming code.
The hacking collective CiberInteligenciaSV has released the code from El Salvador’s Bitcoin Chivo Wallet ATMs in a public forum. Please note that this is a government-owned wallet, and we don’t profit from sharing it – our mission is to make all information accessible for free.
On April 22, VenariX, a cybersecurity initiative based locally, utilized their platform to alert the general population of an imminent data leak. They pointed towards a specific Telegram channel run by CiberInteligenciaSV as the source of this information, where it was announced that the source code would soon be made public.
