The upcoming movie Avatar 3, titled Fire and Ash, will feature some returning actors playing the Na’vi people. The film continues the story of the Sully family on the planet Pandora, showing them adapting to life with the Metkayina clan. They will also encounter a new challenge from the Mangkwan clan, also known as the Ash People.
The Avatar movies already have a fantastic cast, and Avatar 3 will add even more well-known actors to the series.
Avatar 3 – Photos of Every Main Character & Actor
Sam Worthington – Jake Sully

Sam Worthington plays Jake Sully, a marine who initially went to Pandora to replace his brother on a research mission. After becoming paralyzed, Jake connected with a Na’vi avatar and ultimately chose to become one with it, joining the Na’vi clan to defend Pandora from the damaging actions of the RDA.
In Avatar: The Way of Water, Jake and Neytiri have started a family with five children. They move to live with the Metkayina clan near the ocean, but Jake is forced to confront his past when his former colonel, Miles Quaritch, returns seeking revenge – a conflict that will continue in Avatar 3.
Zoe Saldaña – Neytiri

Zoe Saldaña, an Academy Award winner, plays Neytiri, who is the heart of the Avatar movies. As a fierce Na’vi warrior, she’s equally driven by her love for her family and her determination to protect them.
In Avatar: The Way of Water, Neytiri experienced immense loss, including her clan, home, and a son. Dealing with the grief of losing her child will be a central focus for her character in Avatar: Fire and Ash.
Britain Dalton – Lo’ak

As a huge fan of the Avatar films, I’ve been really following Lo’ak, Jake and Neytiri’s second son, played brilliantly by Britain Dalton. He’s a key character in both Avatar: The Way of Water and the upcoming Avatar: Fire and Ash. I loved watching his story unfold, especially his growing connection with Tsireya after his family joined the Metkayina clan. And his friendship with Payakan, the outcast Tulkun, was such a powerful and moving part of the narrative – it really added a lot of heart to the story.
Dalton’s Lo’ak will also have an expanded role in Avatar 3 as the new narrator of the film.
Sigourney Weaver – Kiri

Sigourney Weaver, who played Dr. Grace Augustine in the 2009 film Avatar, returned to the series in The Way of Water as Kiri. Kiri is the adopted daughter of Jake and Neytiri, and was conceived as the biological child of Grace’s Avatar.
In Avatar: The Way of Water, Kiri showed a deep spiritual connection to the deity Ewya and nearly died while connecting with the Metkayina clan’s sacred tree. Director James Cameron has suggested that the next Avatar movie will reveal more about Kiri’s unusual background.
Trinity Bliss – Tuktirey

Tuk, the youngest of the Sully children, is the sweet and caring center of her family, always there for her brothers and sisters. She gets upset whenever they argue. Like the rest of her family, she’s still deeply saddened by the death of her older brother, Neteyam, as shown in Avatar: Fire and Ash.
Jack Champion – Spider

Jack Champion plays Spider, a unique member of the Sully family – he’s the only human child. In Avatar: The Way of Water, it’s revealed that Spider is the son of Miles Quaritch, and the two develop a complicated bond. Ultimately, Spider chooses to save Quaritch’s life.
Spider continued to refuse Quaritch’s attempts to adopt him, remaining loyal to the Sully family – a decision that will likely have consequences in Avatar: Fire and Ash.
Bailey Bass – Tsireya

In Avatar: The Way of Water, Bailey Bass plays Tsireya, the daughter of Metkayina clan leaders Tonowari and Ronal. She helps the Sully children learn the ways of the Metkayina people and develops a relationship with Lo’ak.
Cliff Curtis – Tonowari

In Avatar: The Way of Water, Tonowari (Cliff Curtis), the leader of the Metkayina clan, welcomed the Sully family and later fought with them against the RDA. Throughout the film, Tonowari and Jake Sully developed a friendly bond as fellow clan leaders.
Kate Winslet – Ronal

Following her work with James Cameron on Titanic, Kate Winslet joined the cast of Avatar: The Way of Water as Ronal, a spiritual leader of the Metkayina tribe who is also pregnant with Tonowari’s child. Notably, Winslet trained to hold her breath for an impressive seven minutes to perform the underwater scenes as Ronal.
She began as a careful and determined leader who was hesitant around the Sully family. Over time, she connected with Kiri, and the two bonded over their shared fascination with the magical side of Pandora.
Filip Geljo – Ao’nung

Ao’nung, the son of Tonowari and Ronal (played by Filip Geljo), initially teased the Sully family about their differences, like their tails and fingers, because they were from the forest. But over time, he changed his attitude and became friends with the Sully children.
Stephen Lang – Miles Quaritch

The main villain from the Avatar movies returns in Avatar 3. Stephen Lang plays Miles Quaritch, who first appeared as the head of the RDA’s military forces. He led the attack against the Omatikaya clan, driving them from their home so the RDA could mine a valuable mineral called Unobtainium.
Following his death in the first Avatar film, Colonel Quaritch was revived as a Na’vi and is now seeking revenge against Jake and Neytiri. In Avatar: Fire and Ash, he leads the RDA to the reefs in an attempt to capture the valuable Tulkun. This time, Quaritch has formed an alliance with the Ash people and their leader, Varang, continuing his role as the main villain.
Oona Chaplin – Varang

In the new Avatar: Fire and Ash, Oona Chaplin (known for her role in Game of Thrones) plays Varang, the strong-willed leader of the Ash clan. Varang is fiercely loyal to her people and will go to any lengths to protect them, even forming an unlikely alliance with Quaritch against the Sully family.
Matt Gerald – Lyle Wainfleet

Matt Gerald returned as Lyle Wainfleet in Avatar, the character he played as a soldier fighting against the Na’vi. In the new film, Wainfleet has been reborn in an avatar body and is once again working to advance the RDA’s goals.
After the fight between the RDA and the Metkayina clan in Avatar: The Way of Water, it wasn’t clear what happened to Lyle. However, with Gerald’s reappearance in Avatar 3, we now know Lyle will return as well.
Giovanni Ribisi – Parker Selfridge

In the movie Avatar, Parker Selfridge, played by Giovanni Ribisi, was a powerful executive who had to leave the planet Pandora. He returned in Avatar: The Way of Water as a pre-recorded message, giving instructions to the RDA’s avatar program.
The actor is bringing back this character in Avatar: Fire and Ash, and rumors suggest he might actually film on the sci-fi planet this time.
Joel David Moore – Norm Spellman

In Avatar, scientist Norm Spellman (Joel David Moore) quickly became a close friend and trusted advisor to Jake. He eventually rose to lead the Avatar program and became a key figure among the human population on Pandora.
Norm continued to be friends with the Sully family and came to their aid when Kiri had a seizure in Avatar: The Way of Water, proving he’s still a trusted friend to them.
CCH Pounder – Mo’at

CCH Pounder portrays Mo’at in Avatar, the Omatikaya clan’s spiritual leader and Neytiri’s mother. While she stayed with her clan when Jake and Neytiri went to live among the reefs in the second film, her appearance in Avatar: Fire and Ash hints that a family reunion will happen in the upcoming third movie.
Edie Falco – Frances Ardmore

Edie Falco, known for her role in Nurse Jackie, became part of the Avatar series in the second movie, playing Frances Ardmore. Ardmore is a military leader who took over from Miles Quaritch and works to advance the RDA’s goals. In the second film, she’s shown using harsh methods to achieve those goals, including mistreating Jake Sully’s adopted son, Spider.
Brendan Cowell – Mick Scoresby

In Avatar: The Way of Water, Brendan Cowell’s character, Mick Scoresby, had a particularly memorable scene. After his captain lost an arm fighting Payakan, Mick shared a quietly satisfying moment of payback.
Scoresby and the other hunters are expected to return in Avatar: Fire and Ash, likely seeking revenge against the Tulkun.
Jemaine Clement – Ian Garvin

Ian Garvin, played by Jemaine Clement (known from What We Do in the Shadows), appeared in Avatar: The Way of Water as a researcher working for the RDA. He was assigned to help Mick Scoresby hunt the Tulkuns on Pandora. Though seemingly reluctant, Garvin had to work with the RDA to avoid losing his lab.
Garvin will return in Avatar: Fire and Ash, joining Scoresby, hinting at new dangers for the creatures living in Pandora’s oceans.
David Thewlis – Peylak

A major new addition to Avatar: Fire and Ash is acclaimed actor David Thewlis, who plays Peylak, the leader of the Tlalim – a Na’vi tribe known for their wind trading. In the film, Peylak must navigate complex political challenges as conflict rises between the Ash people, the Sully family, and the Metkayina clan, potentially leaving his tribe caught in the middle.
Thewlis is confirmed to reprise his role as Peylak in the fourth Avatar film.
Avatar: Fire and Ash is scheduled for release in cinemas on December 19, 2025.
