The latest installment in James Cameron’s Avatar series, Avatar: Fire and Ash, hits theaters on December 19th. However, early predictions suggest it won’t earn as much money in its opening weekend as the first Avatar film did.
According to Variety, Avatar: Fire and Ash is expected to make between $90 and $105 million in the United States and Canada during its opening weekend, playing in 3,800 theaters. This will likely make it the top movie at the box office this weekend, surpassing new releases like The Housemaid, The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants, and David.
While still expected to open strongly with around $100 million domestically, Avatar: Fire and Ash is projected to earn less on its opening weekend than its predecessor, Avatar: The Way of Water, which brought in $134 million in North America in 2022.
