Avengers: Doomsday – 5 Exciting New Character Pairings Confirmed

A big part of the fun with new Marvel movies is seeing how different characters team up and interact. This was especially true with the Avengers films, which brought characters like Captain America, Thor, and Iron Man together, and later created surprising pairings like Thor and Rocket Raccoon, or Iron Man and Nebula.

Avengers: Doomsday promises to be an epic crossover event. The film will unite beloved characters from across the Marvel Cinematic Universe, including classic X-Men from the Fox films, and introduce the iconic villain Doctor Doom. Several major stars have already been confirmed to appear, making this a highly anticipated movie.

5. Beast & Doctor Doom

Kelsey Grammer is back as Beast in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday movie. He previously played the character in X-Men: The Last Stand, but this time he’ll be portraying the version of Beast that was introduced in the post-credits scene of The Marvels – a completely computer-generated, blue mutant.

The actor revealed he’ll be acting alongside Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom. He told Entertainment Tonight he’s a longtime fan of RDJ and hinted at a scene they share, though he kept the details vague, saying, “We… sort of share a scene. I don’t wanna go too into that. I don’t know what I can say or not say.”

Though Grammer didn’t say how much Beast and Doom will interact, this marks the first time these two significant Marvel characters will share the screen in a movie. Beast has previously only appeared in X-Men films, and Doom has been exclusive to Fantastic Four movies.

As a movie fan, I’m really looking forward to seeing how the two main characters play off each other in Doomsday. They both seem incredibly strong and clever, so their interactions should be fascinating!

4. Reed Richards & Beast

Pedro Pascal will reprise his role as Reed Richards, also known as Mr. Fantastic, in the upcoming movie Doomsday. The Fantastic Four: First Steps hinted at the team’s importance in future Marvel Cinematic Universe films, and that’s particularly true for Reed, whose son, Franklin Richards, was recently kidnapped by Doom.

I’m really excited because Reed is going to meet Beast in the movie! I read an interview with Kelsey Grammer, and he confirmed they worked together with the actor playing Beast – Pedro Pascal. He seemed to genuinely enjoy working with him, and that’s great to hear. It sounds like they had a good time on set, which hopefully translates to a fun dynamic in the film!

As a big cinema fan, I was excited to hear more about Doomsday from the actor playing the Beast. While he didn’t give away too much about specific scenes, he did confirm something awesome: two of Marvel’s most brilliant minds will be sharing the screen! I’m really hoping their chemistry translates well, just like it seemed Kelsey Grammer had with Pascal during their time working together.

3. Thor & Beast

As a huge Marvel fan, I’m so excited to hear that Chris Hemsworth is returning as Thor! He’s the only original Avenger confirmed for Doomsday so far, and apparently he’s going to have a really significant part – some sources are even saying he’ll be the second lead, right after Robert Downey Jr.’s Doom. It’s great to know Thor will be back in a big way!

Grammer recently revealed he’ll be meeting Beast during filming. When asked which actor he was most excited to work with, he immediately answered, “Thor,” before mentioning Robert Downey Jr. This quick response confirms that Beast and Thor will appear together in the movie.

Because these characters have primarily appeared in separate Marvel universes, they haven’t had the opportunity to meet or interact before now.

It remains to be seen how things will unfold, but a conflict could easily erupt between Thor and the Avengers and Beast and the X-Men, potentially escalating into a large-scale battle. However, they might also team up against a common enemy like Doom, which could lead to an interesting dynamic between the powerful thunder god and the brilliant, furry mutant.

2. Nightcrawler & Reed Richards

There are hints that Reed Richards will team up with another member of the X-Men. Alan Cumming is returning to play Nightcrawler, a role he first had in X2 over two decades ago.

After starting work on Doomsday, Cumming shared his experience with BuzzFeedUK. He mentioned learning fight choreography and was surprised to discover he’d be hitting Pedro Pascal as part of a scene with Nightcrawler and Reed.

I was surprised to hear about the supposed fight between Alan Cumming and Pedro Pascal! They’ve since tried to clarify things. I saw Alan host Jimmy Kimmel Live when the First Steps cast was on, and he jokingly asked Pedro if they’d ever actually fought during filming. He even used a funny phrase, saying something about “cub’s honor.” Pedro quickly responded that they’ve never had a fight at all, which was a relief to hear!

Even if they don’t battle each other, it’s obvious these characters will share screen time. Recent confirmation that Beast will appear alongside the Fantastic Four’s leader hints at a larger story. Audiences can expect to see Nightcrawler, Beast, and other X-Men characters interacting with Reed Richards and the rest of the Fantastic Four team.

1. Gambit & Doctor Doom

Channing Tatum is reprising his role as Gambit in the upcoming movie Doomsday. Although a solo Gambit film didn’t happen when he was with 20th Century Fox, his recent appearance in Deadpool & Wolverine made him a hit with fans. Interestingly, every character he shares a scene with will be appearing in a Marvel movie for the very first time.

Channing Tatum revealed that a major fight between Gambit and Doctor Doom has been filmed. He described it as a “big fight” involving Robert Downey Jr.’s character. This suggests Gambit won’t be facing Doom alone, and the scene could feature a team-up with other Marvel heroes – maybe even for the first time.

It’s funny that because Gambit hasn’t been in many scenes before, even his first conversations with other major X-Men characters will feel like a big moment. These interactions are going to be just as exciting to watch as when the Avengers team up in unexpected ways, creating fresh and fun pairings.
