Fan-made posters are combining imagery from the upcoming movies Avengers: Doomsday and Dune: Part Three, suggesting they might create a similar buzz to the “Barbenheimer” phenomenon of 2023. Last year, Barbie and Oppenheimer were released on the same day, July 21st, and unexpectedly became a huge cultural event, with many people seeing both films as a double feature. The same thing is expected to happen when Avengers: Doomsday and Dune: Part Three are released together on December 18, 2026.
Okay, so with Barbie and Oppenheimer blowing up, everyone went wild making fan posters combining the two – the whole “Barbenheimer” thing. Now, it’s happening again, but with Avengers and Dune. This artist, @bosslogic on Instagram, created some seriously cool concept posters mashing up Avengers: Doomsday and Dune: Part Three. They look amazing – you’ve got that desert vibe from Denis Villeneuve’s Dune films, and Doctor Doom thrown into the mix. But honestly, while the posters are great, this “Avengers: Dunesday” idea doesn’t quite capture the same magic as “Barbenheimer.” It felt like Barbenheimer worked because of the contrast between the two movies, and this just feels…different.
How Avengers: Dunesday Misses the Point of “Barbenheimer”

The simultaneous release of Barbie and Oppenheimer on July 21, 2023, was a major moment for cinema, arguably the biggest since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. The two films boosted each other’s popularity, sparking a wave of memes, merchandise, and creative content that exceeded even the wildest expectations of the marketing teams. This success was due to a strategy called counterprogramming, where studios release very different films at the same time to attract different audiences.
The movie Barbie is a lighthearted comedy inspired by the famous toy, and Oppenheimer is a serious, dramatic film about the making of the atomic bomb. Though very different, clever marketing encouraged people to see both movies together, even sparking debates about which one to watch first. This pairing, dubbed ‘Barbenheimer,’ was a great example of how releasing contrasting films at the same time can boost interest. However, the upcoming releases of Avengers: Doomsday and Dune: Part Three likely won’t create the same buzz.
Both Avengers: Doomsday and Dune: Part Three are exciting, science fiction adventures that will likely attract similar audiences. However, they won’t create the same unique cultural buzz as the “Barbenheimer” pairing. While watching them together will be enjoyable, the experience won’t be special in the same way, because it lacks the unexpected contrast that made “Barbenheimer” such a phenomenon.
