With less than a year until the release of Avengers: Doomsday, excitement among Marvel fans is incredibly high. While the initial cast reveal in March—a livestream showcasing the actors—generated a lot of buzz, fans haven’t had much to speculate about since then. However, the recent release of the first trailers in December changed everything, confirming the return of Chris Evans as Captain America and teasing the appearance of a previously overlooked character from the Thor movies.
Eagle-eyed Marvel fans have spotted something interesting in the trailers for Avengers: Doomsday. When the movie’s title appears, it quickly changes into a countdown to the release date. But for just one frame during this transition, a series of numbers flashes on the screen. These numbers have puzzled fans, who are trying to figure out if they mean anything. Now, a new theory has surfaced that could explain them, and it connects to hints the Russo brothers have already given about the film.
Avengers: Doomsday Countdown Easter Egg May Have Major Clues

Many fans think the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday will continue the story directly after 2019’s Avengers: Endgame. Even though Marvel will have released seventeen other films in the meantime—including the new Spider-Man: Brand New Day—Doomsday is expected to address unresolved plotlines from Endgame, such as Captain America’s life with Peggy Carter. Supporting this idea, Disney and Marvel have announced plans to re-release Avengers: Endgame in theaters in September, three months before Doomsday hits cinemas.
A Reddit user, /u/Prestigious_Judge636, has proposed a theory about the quick flashes of numbers in the trailers for Doomsday. Many fans believe these numbers aren’t accidental, and the user suggests they might connect to specific moments in Avengers: Endgame. The Captain America trailer showed 1:24:20, and the recent Thor trailer displayed 1:17:20. When these times are checked against scenes in Endgame, there seems to be a correlation.
In the movie, two scenes are getting fans excited about a potential storyline for Avengers: Doomsday. At the 1:24:20 mark, Hulk meets the Sorcerer Supreme, who warns, “our world would be overrun.” Later, at 1:17:20, the Avengers discuss coordinating a rescue mission in Avengers Tower, saying, “One, my way down to coordinate search and rescue.” Many believe these lines hint at a major threat – possibly Doctor Doom – and a world facing invasion.
However, the most intriguing part is that Loki actually delivers this line while disguised as Tony Stark. Knowing Loki’s role as the God of Stories, who controls the multiverse, and with Tom Hiddleston confirmed to be in Avengers: Doomsday, this line suggests he’ll be crucial in rescuing heroes from different universes – a key part of the movie’s plot.
It remains to be seen how much of this is true, but with more previews of Doomsday coming out soon, we’ll probably find out quickly how accurate it is. For many fans, the best part is speculating about the meaning of everything before Marvel reveals the answers.
