Avengers Doomsday Will Feature 3 CGI Superheroes

The upcoming film, Avengers: Doomsday, will heavily feature CGI to create several of its heroes. In addition to exciting new costumes, the movie will boast the largest cast of characters in any Marvel Cinematic Universe film so far. Like many MCU movies over the past 17 years, computer-generated imagery will be crucial for visually realizing these characters.

The upcoming movie, Avengers: Doomsday, will heavily rely on CGI, featuring at least three heroes brought to life entirely through computer-generated imagery. While nearly all characters will use CGI to display their powers – like Thor’s lightning, Captain America and Falcon’s flight, Ghost’s ability to phase, and the Human Torch’s flames – a select few will undergo a complete digital transformation, changing the appearance of the actors themselves.

Every CGI Superhero in Avengers: Doomsday

Beast

Kelsey Grammer, who first appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2023’s The Marvels, will reprise his role as Dr. Hank McCoy, also known as Beast, in the upcoming film Doomsday. This will be the fourth time he’s played the character, having originally portrayed the blue-skinned genius in 2006’s X-Men: The Last Stand and made a brief cameo appearance in X-Men: Days of Future Past.

Beast was first brought to life using makeup, but for the movie The Marvels, he was recreated with computer-generated imagery (CGI). The same technique will be used in Doomsday, allowing filmmakers to create a Beast that looks exactly like his comic book counterpart.

The Thing

Ebon Moss-Bachrach joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe again in 2025, playing Ben Grimm, also known as The Thing, in The Fantastic Four: First Steps. He and the other members of the MCU’s Fantastic Four are set to appear in Doomsday, and are expected to play a key role in the movie’s story.

Unlike the Ben Grimm portrayed by Michael Chiklis in the 2005 and 2007 films, actor John Moss-Bachrach played The Thing using motion capture technology – essentially wearing a digital suit instead of a physical costume. This approach will also be used in the upcoming movie Doomsday when The Thing and his teammates first encounter the other heroes.

Spider-Man (Costume)

Although it hasn’t been officially announced, rumors suggest Tobey Maguire will reprise his role as Spider-Man in the 2026 movie Doomsday. If he appears first in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which releases six months before Doomsday, this could be his second Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) appearance, or his third if Brand New Day doesn’t happen first.

A new report from Daniel Richtman suggests Tobey Maguire was spotted on the set of Doomsday wearing a motion capture suit, instead of his traditional Spider-Man costume. Although CGI was used for some of his scenes in Spider-Man: No Way Home, this would be the first time Maguire relies entirely on CGI to portray Peter Parker.

BONUS: Doctor Doom

Okay, so this blew my mind! Marvel just announced that Robert Downey Jr. is coming back – but not as Iron Man! He’s going to play Doctor Doom in the next two big Avengers movies, Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. After eleven years as Tony Stark, it’s wild to think he’s taking on what they’re hinting will be the biggest, most iconic villain the Marvel Cinematic Universe has ever seen. Seriously, Doctor Doom? RDJ? I’m already hyped!

Although we haven’t seen an official look at the character yet, Robert Downey Jr. shared a photo from the set of Doomsday showing him with tracking dots on his face. This suggests Marvel will likely use computer-generated imagery (CGI) to create Doctor Doom’s signature scarred face, and possibly enhance parts of Downey’s costume as well.

The upcoming movie, Avengers: Doomsday, will be the fifth Avengers film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It boasts a huge cast of twenty-seven stars, including characters from the Avengers, X-Men, and Fantastic Four. They’ll be facing off against Doctor Doom, played by Robert Downey Jr., whose mysterious plans threaten the entire multiverse. Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to hit theaters on December 18, 2026.
