The biggest discussion surrounding the upcoming movie, Avengers: Doomsday, centers on the noticeable absence of a key character from the earlier Infinity Saga films. This new movie is set to be the first major crossover event in the Multiverse Saga since 2019’s Avengers: Endgame. It’s bringing back many beloved actors and filmmakers, which is sure to appeal to fans who’ve followed the Marvel Cinematic Universe since it began with Iron Man in 2008. This nostalgia is especially important because the Multiverse Saga hasn’t been as smoothly planned as the Infinity Saga. Due to various challenges, Marvel Studios had to change course a few times, leading to a somewhat disjointed feel compared to the earlier films.
Initially, many fans questioned the decision to have Joe and Anthony Russo direct the new film, and were surprised by the casting of Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom and Chris Evans returning as Steve Rogers. However, Marvel Studios successfully addressed these concerns with a strong marketing campaign. The trailer shown at CinemaCon 2026, along with other promotional materials, convinced many to give the film a chance, all without revealing much about the plot. As with all Marvel movies, Avengers: Doomsday has sparked countless fan theories, but one in particular stands out as a clever attempt to figure out Doctor Doom’s motivations.
Current evidence and the character’s comic book background suggest Doctor Doom may be planning to kidnap the children of Marvel Cinematic Universe heroes. This idea gained traction after his initial appearance in the MCU – a brief scene with Franklin Richards after the credits of Fantastic Four: The First Steps. Plus, recent teasers for Avengers: Doomsday have focused on Captain America’s child and Thor’s connection with Love, hinting they could be targets.
Doctor Doom Targeting Avengers’ Kids Makes Morgan’s Doomsday Absence Curious
If the theory about Avengers: Doomsday is true, it would be a smart way to raise the stakes in the movie. Because the Multiverse Saga hasn’t unfolded as planned, the filmmakers – including the Russos, Michael Waldron, and Stephen McFeely – needed a good reason for all the chaos and Doctor Doom’s arrival, as well as a way to bring Steve Rogers back after his satisfying conclusion in Avengers: Endgame, even with some unanswered questions. By making this conflict personal for the Avengers, the story can address criticism that the film should focus on the original Infinity Saga heroes instead of introducing new ones.
However, this idea brings up a big question about why Morgan Stark isn’t in Avengers: Doomsday. If Doctor Doom is targeting the children of major Marvel heroes, it seems strange that Morgan – Tony Stark and Pepper Potts’ daughter – isn’t involved. She was introduced in Avengers: Endgame and born shortly before Thanos’ snap in Avengers: Infinity War. Given how much Tony loved his daughter, and despite Marvel Studios’ silence on her life after his death, it’s hard to believe Doctor Doom wouldn’t at least attempt to find her.
It’s possible Marvel is intentionally keeping Morgan’s return a secret. She’d likely be around the same age as Katherine Langford’s character from the deleted scene in Avengers: Endgame. But if the Avengers: Doomsday trailer might reveal Chris Evans returning as Captain America and confirm he has a child, keeping Iron Man’s daughter’s return a bigger secret wouldn’t make much sense.
Why Morgan Still Needs To Return In Doomsday Regardless Of Doctor Doom’s Plan
It remains to be seen if the theory about Doctor Doom is correct. Marvel Studios’ marketing strategy allows them to keep key story details hidden. However, whether Robert Downey Jr.’s villain targets the Avengers’ children or not, it’s important for Morgan Stark to appear in Avengers: Doomsday. With Tony Stark’s legacy still felt throughout the franchise, now would be the ideal moment to bring Morgan back into the story.
It’s currently unclear if the character will have a larger role in future Marvel films, but bringing her in now would make that easier. While she may not be a typical superhero battling enemies directly, having her involved with running Stark Industries could open up exciting story possibilities down the line. Interestingly, Marvel is already exploring Iron Man’s legacy with the VisionQuest project, which could also create opportunities for the Stark family to reappear.
Avengers: Doomsday will hit theaters on December 18, 2026.
