Avengers: Doomsday’s Trailers Were Perfect – Except For One Thing

When the first trailers for Avengers: Doomsday came out, fans quickly spotted a small issue that prevented them from being flawless. These trailers were hugely popular, racking up over a billion views combined and keeping the movie at the center of online conversations for over a month. The trailers hinted at exciting scenes, but one particular moment really caught people’s attention.

After brief previews of Avengers: Doomsday showing Steve Rogers, Thor, and the X-Men, the latest trailer focused on the first encounter between the Wakandans and the Fantastic Four. The meeting between Winston Duke’s King M’Baku and Ebon Moss-Bachrach’s Ben Grimm (The Thing) was a significant moment, but the conversation between them was surprisingly funny – a lighter tone than anything seen in previous trailers.

When M’Baku identifies himself as the King of Wakanda, Ben responds with his New York City address: Yancy Street, between Broome and Grand. This was unusual for a Marvel movie trailer – especially for something as big as Doomsday – because it ended with a funny moment instead of a dramatic one. While the scene is still impressive, the joke makes the overall conflict feel a little less serious.

In April 2011, Marvel Studios released a brief teaser trailer for The Avengers (coming in 2012). The teaser didn’t show any actual movie footage – that was saved for a clip after the credits of 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger. Featuring Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury doing a voiceover, the trailer mainly showed quick glimpses of the title card, building anticipation for the film and ending with a full reveal of the movie’s logo.

The first trailer for 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron gave fans their first complete view of James Spader as the villain, Ultron. The trailer featured a haunting rendition of “I’ve Got No Strings” from Disney’s 1940 film Pinocchio, and Ultron dramatically appeared, delivering the line, “There are no strings on me…” in a chilling voice. (This particular moment didn’t make it into the final movie.)

Three years after that, the first trailer for Avengers: Infinity War ended on a hopeful but grand note, hinting at Thor’s initial encounter with the Guardians of the Galaxy. While slightly different in the finished movie, the scene shows Thor asking, “Who the hell are you guys?” before the camera pans out to reveal the Guardians standing on their ship, the Benatar, with Mantis waving.

The first trailer for Avengers: Endgame (where the official title was revealed) ended with a scene featuring Ant-Man arriving at the Avengers facility and encountering Captain America and Black Widow. While Paul Rudd’s character brings a bit of humor to the moment, it’s ultimately a serious one, as Steve Rogers and Natasha Romanoff discover that Scott Lang survived Thanos’ snap, which wiped out half of all life in the universe.

Scheduled for release in December 2026, Avengers: Doomday will be the fifth Avengers film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the second Marvel movie released that year. The film will feature a massive cast of over 30 familiar faces from the MCU, as well as members of the X-Men and Fantastic Four, all joining forces to fight Robert Downey Jr., who will play Doctor Doom, in a battle to save the multiverse.

What Marvel May Do in the Next Avengers: Doomsday Trailer

It’s still unknown when Marvel Studios will release a comprehensive trailer for Avengers: Doomsday that showcases the full scope of the film. While past Avengers trailers have included humor, given the high stakes presented so far, most fans anticipate the next trailer will be more dramatic and focus on the serious aspects of the story.

Marvel is expected to highlight Robert Downey Jr.’s portrayal of Doctor Doom in an upcoming trailer. Often considered Marvel’s greatest villain, Doom typically keeps his face covered, so we likely won’t see much of it. However, Downey Jr.’s performance promises to bring a lot of intensity and feeling to the promotional materials and the film itself.

With the release of Doomsday still about ten months away and no trailer shown at the Super Bowl, we likely won’t see any new footage or information about the movie until this spring or summer.

Early looks suggest Marvel’s next film could be one of its greatest, and the upcoming trailer is expected to fully showcase the serious and powerful story unfolding with the Avengers and Doctor Doom.
