Avengers: Secret Wars Theory Claims Josh Brolin’s Thanos Might Return In A Big Way (But I Don’t Buy It)

Although Avengers: Doomsday isn’t out for over a year, filming for the next movie, Avengers: Secret Wars, is expected to begin soon. Since the plot of Doomsday is still unknown, Secret Wars is even more unpredictable, but rumors are already circulating about what might happen. One theory, in particular, caught my eye – it suggests that Thanos could make a comeback.

Could Thanos Return In Avengers: Secret Wars?

According to Comicbook.com, Thanos could reappear in the upcoming Secret Wars storyline. The theory proposes we might see a version of Thanos known as King Thanos – a powerful ruler of the universe who comes from a reality where he won against the Avengers using the Infinity Stones.

I just read an interview with Josh Brolin, and he was asked about possibly playing Thanos again! He didn’t give a straight answer, but he definitely seemed open to it. He even hinted that they might have already been talking about him coming back – which is amazing! As a fan, I’m really hoping that means we haven’t seen the last of the Mad Titan.

The idea is intriguing, and given that the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars films seem determined to include a huge number of characters, it’s not entirely far-fetched. While there’s a history that suggests bringing King Thanos into the Marvel Cinematic Universe could work, it’s actually the main reason I’m skeptical about this specific theory.

King Thanos Will Appear At Disneyland

Fans won’t see King Thanos in a movie anytime soon, but they will be able to encounter him at the new Avengers Infinity Defense attraction coming to Disneyland Resort. The ride will feature a multiverse story where Marvel heroes from different realities team up to fight a version of Thanos who has already won.

Currently, Avengers Infinity Defense doesn’t have a confirmed opening date, but 2027 seems probable – the same year the movie Secret Wars is scheduled for release. Some fans speculate this timing could mean King Thanos will also be in Secret Wars, and I can see their reasoning, but I don’t think it’s likely.

Most people now believe Doctor Doom will be the main villain in Avengers: Secret Wars. Bringing Thanos back could create problems: it might make Doom seem less powerful if Thanos is presented as the bigger threat, or it could diminish Thanos’s importance if he’s portrayed as easily defeated by Doom.

I wouldn’t be surprised if we see a quick glimpse of King Thanos in Secret Wars, or at least a mention that he exists somewhere in the multiverse. Disney has referenced its park attractions in movies before. However, making Thanos a major player in Secret Wars doesn’t seem like a good idea.
