Obsidian Entertainment has shared its plan for future updates to Avowed, including what’s been released and what’s still on the way. A significant update is scheduled for February to celebrate the game’s first anniversary.
Obsidian has already improved the game with features like a safe mode for those afraid of spiders, and new skills for both players and characters in the world. The upcoming update will bring even more, including a New Game Plus mode, a photo mode, a brand new weapon, the ability to customize your character’s look during exploration, and new character and customization options. You can find details on the update plan for Avowed in 2026 in the announcement post below.
Hi everyone! As you may know from our development plans, we were aiming to release an update this fall. Unfortunately, we have to share that Avowed won’t be getting an update then. However, we’re now focusing on a bigger update coming next…

The new RPG, Avowed, is out now for Xbox Series X|S and PC. In a review, Final Weapon gave the game a 2 out of 5 stars. While the gameplay can be quite engaging, the review highlighted a lack of a compelling story, meaningful choices, and interesting dialogue. It also pointed out excessive grinding for experience points and several technical problems. Ultimately, the reviewer felt Avowed doesn’t measure up to Obsidian’s past successes and falls short when compared to other recent RPGs like Cyberpunk 2077 and Baldur’s Gate 3.
Lastly, the Steam page describes Avowed as follows:
Welcome to the Living Lands, a mysterious island filled with adventure and danger.
Avowed is a first-person fantasy action RPG developed by Obsidian Entertainment, the creators of the acclaimed Pillars of Eternity series. It takes place in the same fictional world, Eora, that players first explored in those games.
The Living Lands is a magical island full of wonder. The plants almost seem alive, and the very ground holds hidden mysteries waiting to be discovered.
