Chris O’Dowd will star in “Ceasefire,” a new political thriller that tells the story of the events leading up to the Good Friday Agreement and the peace it brought to Northern Ireland.
The actor, known for his roles in ‘The IT Crowd’ and ‘Black Mirror’, will portray Niall O’Dowd, an Irish-American journalist who secretly helped establish a link between the IRA and the administration of US President Bill Clinton.
The new movie, Ceasefire, stars O’Dowd as a man who puts himself in danger to try and bring about a permanent peace between warring factions. The film, based on a true story, features a talented cast playing the important roles.
Jane Fonda, the famous actress, will play the role of Jean Kennedy Smith in an upcoming film or series. Kennedy Smith was the U.S. Ambassador to Ireland during Bill Clinton’s presidency, serving from 1993 to 1998. She was also the sister of President John F. Kennedy.
John C. Reilly will play Bruce Morrison, a US politician who helped facilitate talks between Gerry Adams and Bill Clinton. Ciarán Hinds will play William J. Flynn, a businessman who also played a key role in the peace process.
Tom Hollander, the BAFTA winner known for his roles in shows like The Night Manager, The White Lotus, and Feud: Capote vs. The Swans, will star in the film. Details about his character are still being kept under wraps.

Terry George, the director behind films like In the Name of the Father, The Boxer, Some Mother’s Son, and the powerful 2004 drama Hotel Rwanda, now presents his latest project, Ceasefire. His films often explore themes related to the conflict known as The Troubles.
George wrote the screenplay for the movie, and filming is scheduled to begin in Ireland later this year.
I was really struck by what the filmmaker shared about their new project, ‘Ceasefire.’ They explained it’s about all the difficult, risky, and often unseen efforts that go into bringing conflicts to an end. It really highlights the work happening behind the scenes that most people don’t realize exists.
This story champions the power of conversation to overcome conflict. It’s a deeply impactful and important tale, and I’m proud to be sharing it.
Filmmakers Trevor Birney and Patrick O’Neill explained that the conflict in Northern Ireland was incredibly difficult to resolve. After 25 years of fighting, people had almost given up hope for peace.
The journey to peace is a powerful and moving story, and a vital reminder today that ordinary people – not just governments – have the power to create change and protect those caught in unwanted conflicts.
I’m a huge fan of Terry, and I truly believe he’s one of Ireland’s most talented filmmakers. I’m absolutely thrilled to hear he’s gathered such a fantastic cast for ‘Ceasefire,’ and I can’t wait to see it come to life later this year – I’m beyond excited for production to begin!
Ceasefire is coming soon.
