It’s been more than 35 years since the manga Baki The Grappler first appeared, and the story of Baki Hanma has since become a hit anime on Netflix. To celebrate the series’ anniversary and upcoming return to television, egmr.ru spoke with Yuki Yokoi, Assistant General Manager of Akita Shoten. During the conversation, Yokoi discussed a frequently debated aspect of the manga: its portrayal of American politics and its humorous take on President Donald Trump.
The manga series Baki The Grappler is known for featuring real-life people as characters. Throughout the story, Yujiro Hanma, Baki’s father, has met numerous famous figures, including Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, and George W. Bush. Recently, he had a contentious meeting with President Donald Trump and Elon Musk. According to artist Yuki, these appearances aren’t random; they’re used to emphasize Yujiro’s incredible power and to reinforce the idea that Itagaki, the creator, views the world of Baki as very real. We can expect to see even more real-world personalities show up in future installments.
Baki Forever

For thirty-five years, Keisuke Itagaki has been creating new stories for the Baki franchise, and he shows no signs of stopping. Yuki Yokoi recently discussed the series’ long run, explaining that a conclusion isn’t planned. Itagaki-sensei has repeatedly said he doesn’t believe in endings, stating that as long as the characters are compelling, the story will continue to unfold naturally through their actions. Yokoi believes that as long as Itagaki-sensei is involved, Baki will continue indefinitely.
During our conversation, Yokoi talked about his favorite fight in the Baki The Grappler series. With so many intense battles to choose from, it was hard to pick just one. He explained that while Keisuke Itagaki, the creator, likely has specific fights that are meaningful to him, Yokoi personally remembers the Katsumi Orochi versus Pickle fight vividly. He worked as an editor on that arc and was particularly impressed by Katsumi’s development leading up to the battle. Being involved in shaping the story during that fight left a strong, lasting impression on him.
What Lies in Wait For Baki?

Fans of the manga Baki The Grappler can look forward to a new season on Netflix! Following Baki Hanma’s incredible win against his father, Yujiro Hanma, the anime will continue with Baki-Dou. Now considered the world’s strongest fighter, Baki will face a formidable opponent: the legendary swordsman Musashi Miyamoto from Japanese folklore. The new season is scheduled for release in 2026, though Netflix hasn’t announced a specific date yet.
The Baki Hanma manga has progressed beyond the Miyamoto fight, recently concluding a battle with a famous sumo wrestler. The story now centers on Baki’s brother, Jack Hanma, and his pursuit of personal objectives while trying to overcome past defeats. Given the anime’s popularity as a Netflix exclusive, it’s likely that all the manga’s intense action will eventually be brought to life through animation.
